Applied AI Sr. Web Developer - Ottawa, ON

Trend Micro

Ottawa, ON • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 28 days ago

Job description

TrendAI, the global AI security leader and enterprise business unit of Trend Micro, empowers organizations with full AI visibility and consolidated security that inspires confidence, drives innovation, and eliminates risk.
At TrendAI, we're always seeking exceptional talent; people who want to collaborate with the best and push boundaries together. Here, your work goes beyond building a career. You will help protect what matters and play a vital role in shaping a safer, more trustworthy AI-powered future.
AI Fearlessly.

Position Summary:

TrendAI is seeking a skilled Applied AI Sr. Web Developer to help design and implement TrendAI's new digital presence. As we expand the teams of front-end developers and creating web experiences at scale, you will be the architect of high-performance, content-rich web experiences that showcase our security innovations to the world.

A primary focus of this role is more than a coder, you will apply a broad range of technical skills to solve complex web challenges, mentor junior developers in modern web practices, and act as a vital link between our R&D, design, and business teams. You won't just use AI tools, you will help champion the adoption of AI-enabled development and define the best practices that will shape our future workflow. We are looking for a results-oriented "owner" who is proactive in identifying opportunities to improve our developer experience through emerging AI technologies.

If you have a deep mastery of the modern web stack, hands-on experience shipping public websites powered by a headless CMS, and a passion for leading at the intersection of AI and web technology, we want you to help us build the future of TrendAI.

Is this role for you? This position builds our public-facing corporate websites: globally available, content-authored by marketing in a headless CMS, and optimized for AEO/GEO/SEO/performance. If you don't have hands-on, production experience shipping real public websites (not internal tools, dashboards, or personal portfolio projects), or if you're more excited about building interactive web applications like Trend Vision One Cybersecurity Platform, take a look at our Applied AI Sr. Front-End Developer posting instead, since that's a different skill set and a different team. (There's more on how the two tracks connect under "Cross-Role Opportunity" below.)

Responsibilities:

  • Design the Modern Web: Design and implement the development of modular, high-performance public-facing websites using Astro, React, and TypeScript. You'll be responsible for ensuring our web architecture is scalable, accessible, responsive and optimized for a global audience.

  • Defining AI-Enabled Workflows: You will influence our AI software development practices. You'll evaluate and implement AI agents (such as Claude Code, Kiro, and GitHub Copilot) to accelerate the team's delivery, ensuring these tools are used ethically and effectively to maintain high code quality.

  • Builder & Teacher: While you continue to build complex features independently, you will also dedicate time to mentoring junior developers. You'll conduct code reviews, share best practices in AI tool usage, component library customization, and foster a culture of continuous technical growth.

  • CMS Ownership: You will own and evolve our content management workflow, specifically leveraging Sanity (headless CMS) to empower our marketing content creators with a smooth publishing experience, while maintaining a clean, maintainable developer experience on the front end.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure as Code: You will contribute to our web infrastructure on AWS. This includes managing deployments via S3 and CloudFront and utilizing Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK) to ensure our environments are robust and reproducible.

  • End-to-End Ownership: Take ownership of tasks from inception to completion, writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code in TypeScript, JavaScript, Astro or Next.js.

  • Productivity Optimization: Expertly use ethical AI tools to enhance personal and team productivity, reducing time-to-market for content-rich pages and site sections.

  • Quality Engineering: You will set the standard for testing, lead a test-driven approach by incorporating unit tests and employing end-to-end frameworks such as Cypress or Playwright. Utilize AI to construct comprehensive test suites and address edge cases, while developing and coordinating a team of AI agents to perform testing and continually improve coverage.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively manage uncertainties and identify opportunities for architectural growth, staying current with the modern front-end ecosystem (e.g. visualization, signal, browser APIs etc.).

Qualifications:

  • What to show us: We'd love to see 1-2 live public websites you've built or significantly contributed to. Bonus points if the content is sourced from a CMS and managed by non-engineers.

  • Senior Technical Expertise: Extensive experience building production-grade, public-facing websites with Astro, React, and TypeScript (content-driven sites, not internal tools or Single Page Applications). You have a deep understanding of web performance, AEO, GEO, SEO and modern browser APIs.

  • AI Tooling Proficiency: Proven experience using AI tools to enhance productivity and a willingness to experiment with modern AI web technologies (e.g. CopilotKit, AG-UI protocol, AI SDKs).

  • CMS Experience: Proven, hands-on experience working with Headless CMS platforms (building templates, schemas, and content models that non-technical marketers can use). Specific expertise with Sanity is a significant advantage. This is an essential requirement.

  • Styling Mastery: Mature-level knowledge of Tailwind CSS and experience building or maintaining design systems using component libraries like Preline, Flowbite, or DaisyUI.

  • Cloud Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with AWS services (S3, CloudFront, IAM) and a strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK).

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a growth mindset.

  • Bonus:

    • Experience with localization/internationalization and accessibility (WCAG) best practices for modern website.

    • Contributions to open-source projects or a presence in the web development community.

Cross-Role Opportunity:

This posting is scoped to public website and CMS work, and that's the bar we're hiring against. Our web development team (public websites) and front-end development team (interactive web applications) share the same leadership, mentorship, AI tooling, and technical support, so depending on project needs and your interests, there may be an opportunity to move into front-end development work on our Cybersecurity Platform. For this role, please apply based on the website/CMS experience you have today.

At Trend Micro, we embrace change, empower people, and encourage innovation in a connected world. Our diversity and multicultural workforce are key contributing factors to our success across the globe.Trend Micro welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.
