POSITION SUMMARY

The Jr. Estimator supports the estimating team in executing high-volume, repeatable tasks essential to accurate and competitive solar EPC bids. This role builds foundational fluency in utility-scale solar scope, pricing, and bid documentation under the direct supervision of the Sr. Estimator.

The Jr. Estimator focuses on quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and vendor quote tracking, document management, and data entry - laying the groundwork for growth into more independent estimating responsibilities.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES *

Estimating & Cost Development

  • Read and interpret basic civil and electrical drawings to support quantity takeoffs.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from design documents — racking, wire, conduit, and grading.
  • Enter and reconcile takeoff data in the estimate with zero errors.
  • Use company estimating software and spreadsheet templates accurately and consistently.
  • Maintain and update internal cost databases, unit rates, and productivity benchmarks as directed.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Organize and distribute RFQ packages to subcontractors and vendors under Sr. Estimator direction.
  • Manage RFQ distribution lists and execute the follow-up cadence to ensure quote receipt by deadline.
  • Track quote deadlines and escalate coverage gaps to the Sr. Estimator promptly.
  • Log and organize received quotes in the Coverage Tracker with accurate date, amount, and status entries.

Documentation & Process

  • Follow established bid templates and checklists without deviation.
  • Maintain organized bid files, version control, and document logs across active projects.
  • Ensure consistent use of company estimating tools, templates, and processes.
  • Understand the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and how individual tasks contribute to the full estimate.
  • Support bid-day preparation and submission, ensuring documentation completeness.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Communicate progress and blockers proactively to the Sr. Estimator.
  • Ask clarifying questions before making assumptions on scope or data.
  • Support post-bid reviews and estimate handoff activities as directed.


Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Qualifications

  • Associates or bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent field experience.
  • 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating, takeoffs, or related support roles.
  • Basic ability to read civil and electrical drawings.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy under deadline pressure.
  • Receptive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general office software.
  • Familiarity with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, AGtek or equivalent) preferred.
  • Exposure to construction document management tools a plus.

This Role Does Not Own

  • Scope interpretation or gap analysis — escalate to Sr. Estimator.
  • Subcontractor scope leveling — Sr. Estimator responsibility.
  • Client-facing communication — Director or Sr. Estimator responsibility.
  • Go/No-Go input or recommendation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / JOB CONDITIONS

  • Full-time salaried role.
  • Remote-first with travel to project sites as required by active bids and awarded projects.
  • Occasional travel to company headquarters in Enfield, Connecticut.
  • Deadline-driven environment — multiple simultaneous bids with varying submission timelines.
