What is a junior coding role?

Junior Coding roles are entry-level positions in the technology field where individuals typically assist with writing, testing, and maintaining code under the supervision of more experienced developers. These positions are ideal for recent graduates or those new to programming who want to gain hands-on experience and develop their technical skills. Junior coders often work on tasks such as debugging, fixing bugs, and implementing simple features while learning industry best practices and collaborating with a software development team.

What are some common challenges faced by junior coding professionals during their first year on the job?

Junior coding professionals often encounter challenges such as adapting to new codebases, understanding established development workflows, and managing multiple priorities. It's common to feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar tools or technologies, but asking questions and seeking mentorship can help ease this transition. Building effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and participating in code reviews are crucial for growth and integration within the team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior coder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Coder, you need a fundamental understanding of programming languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), basic software development principles, and often a relevant degree or coding bootcamp certification. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, code editors, and debugging tools is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you adapt to team environments and learn from feedback. These skills and qualities are crucial for writing reliable code, collaborating efficiently, and growing as a developer in a fast-paced tech setting.

At Entertainment Partners and Central Casting, we are committed to creating an environment where every employee is seen, where ideas, thoughts and perspectives are shared openly, and where fearless innovation is encouraged. Weaving diversity, equity, and inclusion into who we are will drive our competitiveness by encouraging creativity and enhanced decision making.

We help to power Oscar-winning films, Emmy-winning shows, and Clio-winning commercials. Feel the satisfaction of doing work that directly impacts the most exciting industry in the world. EP is poised to redefine and evolve the back-office processes of the entertainment community with security at the core of what we do.

Are you looking for the next opportunity to revolutionize an industry? If so.…

Entertainment Partners (EP) is seeking an Junior Full Stack Engineer to join our technology organization as part of our commitment to growing the next generation of full stack engineering talent. This role is designed for early-career engineers who are strong in their fundamentals, eager to learn, and excited about building AI-powered products that serve the global entertainment industry. The Associate Software Engineer will work on defined feature tickets, grow their technical craft through hands‑on delivery, paired code reviews, and mentorship from senior engineers, and contribute to a team that moves fast without sacrificing quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the following, other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Feature Development
  • Implement well-scoped feature tickets across the frontend (React.js/TypeScript) and backend (Python/FastAPI) stack.
  • Build UI components using React.js following established design system and component library conventions.
  • Write backend logic and REST API endpoints in Python/FastAPI under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Connect frontend and backend layers; understand how data flows through EP's application architecture.
  • Follow existing code patterns, style guides, and engineering standards.
  • Quality & Learning
  • Write unit tests for your code; learn integration testing practices with support from senior teammates.
  • Participate in code reviews — both receiving feedback on your own PRs and reviewing others' work as skill grows.
  • Ask questions early and often; communicate blockers promptly to your Engineering Manager or tech lead.
  • Actively participate in sprint ceremonies: standups, planning, retrospectives, and demos.
  • Use EP's AI coding tools (Tabnine, Claude Code) to accelerate development and learn engineering patterns.
Growth & Contribution
  • Take ownership of your personal development plan in partnership with your Engineering Manager.
  • Engage with EP's internal learning resources, architecture brown bags, and code pairing sessions.
  • Contribute ideas for improving the team's tooling, documentation, or engineering processes.
  • Build familiarity with EP's AI product portfolio and the LLM integration patterns used across the stack.
JOB REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent bootcamp/self-taught experience with demonstrated projects.
  • 0–3 years of professional or internship software engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of Python or JavaScript/TypeScript; ability to read and contribute to code in both.
  • Basic familiarity with React.js; understanding of components, props, and state.
  • Understanding of REST APIs — what they are, how to consume them, and how to think about designing them.
  • Experience with Git — branching, committing, opening PRs, and resolving conflicts.
  • Ability to write basic SQL queries and understand relational database concepts.
  • Strong curiosity, willingness to learn, and ability to receive and apply feedback constructively.
Preferred qualifications
  • Academic or personal project experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django on the backend.
  • Experience building UI projects with React.js (class projects, hackathons, or personal portfolio work).
  • Exposure to any cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) through coursework or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts or experience calling an LLM API in a project context.
  • Experience working in any Agile team environment — coursework, internship, or extracurricular.
  • Hybrid work environment — Burbank, CA headquarters with structured in‑office days for onboarding and collaboration.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time at a computer workstation.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Availability during standard business hours with flexibility for team ceremonies and occasional production support.
Other benefits and perks included are:
  • Health, Dental, and Vision options
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan and company match
  • Paid holidays, vacation time, and sick time
  • Participation in company equity plans
  • Employee Assistance Program, mental health and wellness programs
  • Training and development
  • Annual bonus and merit reviews

The salary range for this position in $70,000 to $95,000 and will be commensurate with experience related to the position.
