GSE is currently seeking a Junior Chemical Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Technical Reachback team in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This position entails providing analysis and advise on chemical and biological weapons and threats to DTRA reachback customers. Customers include military teams, emergency responders, and interagency partners in the Department of Defense (DoD), Combatant Commands, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and others.


To be qualified, the candidate MUST be a US citizen and possess active Secret Clearance with the ability to receive a Top Secret Clearance with SCI access.


This position requires expertise in chemical weapons and hazardous materials properties, adverse impacts, and response/recovery operations as well as chemical and biological threat dissemination methods and risk assessment.This position is on site at Fort Belvoir, VA and requires shift work; shifts can vary and expand over multiple days at a time.


Tasks assigned to this position include:

  • Conduct risk assessments of chemical threats to military teams and civilian emergency responders and advise on actions
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFI) from DoD military and civilian personnel
  • Provide professional opinions and advice on risk mitigation of chemical attacks and incidents
  • Collaborate with other professional staff to perform duties effectively
  • Provide training to DoD military and civilian personnel
  • Conduct research and development projects in collaboration with other DTRA Departments


Qualifications:

  • MS in Chemical Engineering
  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Active Secret security clearance and eligibility for Top Secret with SCI access (current Top Secret clearance preferred)
  • Knowledge of DoD and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) operations and research applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 suite of products
