Job description

The primary function of the Assistant Project Superintendent is to assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent or other assigned supervisor(s) in all matters related to field activities for a specific project. An Assistant Project Superintendent may be assigned overall responsibility for a smaller project where appropriate.

The duties, responsibilities and attributes of the Assistant Project Superintendent include, but are not limited to:
Technical Skills
  • Capable of being successful in the lead Project Superintendent role on a project with a project budget range of $1M - $10M, under various delivery methods, diversity in market sectors and varying complexities. The intent is this individual is capable of running the aforementioned project budget range without supervision
  • Assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent or other assigned supervisors(s) when part of a large project team
  • Has the ability to manage a segment or area of a large project as part of a large project team
  • Assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent or other assigned supervisors(s) with the initial preparation and maintenance of schedules
  • Assist with the development, maintenance and enforcement of project site safety programs
  • Assist with the coordination and management of material procurement and deliveries
  • Assist with the implementation of all SWPPP measures and documentation
  • Assist in maintaining a complete and accurate set of working documents pertaining to the project
  • Assist in the coordination of all field inspections and testing
  • Possess knowledge of all documents associated with the project
  • Reads and understands subcontracts and the associated exhibits. Has the ability to enforce contractual obligations in the field
Management Skills
  • Assist in providing pertinent field information that could affect the Monthly Reconciliation Report accuracy and forecasts
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and enforcement of project-specific quality control measures
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of eight-week look ahead schedules
  • Assist with coordination of all daily subcontractor activities
  • Provides input to the Project Manager on field activities that have cost impacts in the field. Follows WEO procedures for documenting all change order and back charge related work
  • Assist with the documentation of all actions dealing with actual or possible claims / legal action
  • Assist in the oversight of WEO employed or 3rd party provided laborer responsibilities
  • Shows the capacity to manage all onsite activities (areas) under the direction and mentoring of the Project Superintendent staff and / or the Project Manager
  • Attend and document weekly Foreman meetings and actively participates in meetings pertaining to work they are managing
  • Lead an On Site Safety Meeting - including completion of weekly Site Safety Survey
  • Understands and enforces WEO and Cal-OSHA safety standards
  • Collects man counts and daily reports for each subcontractor on site. Writes concise, comprehensive descriptions of each day's work performed on site in WEO daily report
  • Ability to create and manage completion and punch lists and assist with the timely completion of all punch lists and completion lists items

Qualifications:
Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience in a related field or 3-5 years minimum of relevant project field experience, as a Field Engineer or equivalent
 
Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
 
Basic familiarity with Microsoft Project or P6 Scheduling Software and Project Management Software, such as Prolog, Viewpoint, CMiC or equivalent applications. With general knowledge and experience, using daily software tools, such as Bluebeam, Plan Grid, Safety Mojo, BIM 360 Glue, etc.
 
Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course 
First Aid and CPR certified
Understanding of construction administration processes, including construction documents, schedules, RFIs, Submittals and material procurement

Physical Demands:  
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
