What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in fields such as software, petroleum, and aerospace engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, specialized skills, and leadership roles. High compensation often involves working in high-demand industries, managing large projects, or holding executive-level responsibilities.

What engineers make $200,000 a year?

Senior engineers in fields such as software, petroleum, and aerospace engineering often earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, specialized skills, and advanced certifications. High-paying roles typically require expertise in areas like cloud computing, data science, or management, and may involve leadership responsibilities or working in high-demand industries.

What does a junior engineer do?

A junior engineer assists in designing, developing, and testing engineering projects under the supervision of senior engineers. They perform tasks such as data analysis, drafting technical documents, and using tools like CAD or programming languages to support project goals. This role often requires foundational technical skills and a relevant degree or certification.

What is the difference between Jr Engineer vs Mechanical Engineer?

AspectJr EngineerMechanical Engineer
Required CredentialsDiploma or Bachelor's in EngineeringBachelor's or higher in Mechanical Engineering
Work EnvironmentEntry-level, supervised tasks, site or officeDesign, analysis, project management, often more autonomous

Strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are essential soft skills that help Jr Engineers grow and adapt. These skills enable Jr Engineers to contribute effectively to projects, collaborate with senior staff, and develop professionally within engineering teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Jr Engineers when transitioning from academic projects to real-world engineering tasks?

Jr Engineers often find that real-world engineering projects involve more collaborative work, tighter deadlines, and the need to follow established processes and documentation standards compared to academic assignments. Adjusting to working within a team, understanding project management tools, and effectively communicating with senior engineers and other departments can be challenging at first. However, with mentorship and hands-on experience, Jr Engineers quickly develop these skills and become valuable contributors to their teams.

What are Jr Engineers?

Jr Engineers, or Junior Engineers, are entry-level professionals who assist in designing, developing, and maintaining engineering projects under the supervision of senior staff. They typically perform tasks such as drafting plans, conducting tests, collecting data, and troubleshooting issues in their field of engineering. Jr Engineers gain hands-on experience while learning industry standards and best practices, and their role serves as a foundation for career growth in engineering. They usually have a relevant degree or diploma and may work in fields like civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering.

Position Summary

Were hiring a hands-on Junior Engineer to support the engineering team for non-structural aircraft cabin interior products. This role is ideal for someone with at least 23 years of SolidWorks/CAD drafting experience who is organized, self-sufficient, and enjoys owning the engineering admin and documentation work that keeps programs moving.

Key Responsibilities

CAD & Drawing Support

  • Create and update 2D drawings and 3D models in SolidWorks for non-structural interior components and assemblies.
  • Produce drawing packages with clear dimensions, notes, and revision control; support release of drawings per company procedures.
  • Maintain and update BOMs, part numbers, and drawing metadata as required.
  • Support engineering change activity (ECR/ECO): incorporate redlines, update revisions, and ensure correct distribution of released documents.

Engineering Admin & Program Support

  • Own day-to-day engineering coordination tasks for the Senior Engineer (tracking action items, open questions, due dates, and deliverables).
  • Organize and maintain engineering files, templates, and documentation in a consistent structure.
  • Prepare meeting notes, summaries, and follow-ups for engineering/production/quality touchpoints.
  • Support cross-functional communication by gathering information from production, quality, supply chain, and suppliers.

Research & Problem Solving

  • Research standards, supplier data, and technical information to support design decisions (materials, hardware, finishes, adhesives, etc.).
  • Help troubleshoot fit/finish issues and drawing questions by reviewing models/drawings, confirming requirements, and proposing options for the Senior Engineer to approve.
  • Assist with prototype builds, first-run feedback, and documentation updates based on shop-floor learnings.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 23 years of experience in CAD drafting/design support, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook; Teams/SharePoint a plus).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and basic manufacturing processes.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple small tasks without losing track.
  • Self-sufficient: can take a task from request to draft deliverable with minimal supervision.
  • High school diploma or GED (technical certificate or associate degree preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace interiors or other high-cosmetic, high-configuration products.
  • Familiarity with revision control, ECO workflows, and document control practices.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up concepts.
  • Experience supporting BOMs/part numbering in an ERP/MRP system.
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred but not required

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong written communication (clear notes, clean drawing markups, crisp email follow-ups)
  • Practical problem solving and curiosity; comfortable researching and validating assumptions
  • High ownership and follow-through; dependable with deadlines
  • Collaborative and low-ego support mindset (makes the Senior Engineer and team faster)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Office + manufacturing floor interface; occasional time on the floor to confirm fit/finish or clarify build questions.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods and work at a computer.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Produces accurate SolidWorks models/drawings with minimal rework.
  • Keeps engineering documentation organized and up to date (revisions, redlines, released files).
  • Reduces the Senior Engineers admin load by reliably tracking tasks, questions, and deliverables.
  • Demonstrates strong responsiveness to production/quality questions and closes loops quickly.
