Job Description:
Job Summary: The Licensed Vocational Nurse II is responsible for the total nursing care of assigned patients in accordance with provider's orders under the guidance and supervision of the nurse in charge.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
  1. Delivers quality nursing care to assigned groups of patients while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury.
  2. Records patients' medical information and vital signs.
  3. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.
  4. Conducts specified laboratory tests.
  5. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
  6. Completes documentation to meet regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  7. Provides patient education directed towards identified knowledge deficits.
  8. Guides, educates, and provides leadership as a preceptor to LVNs and non-licensed clinical staff, as directed.
  9. Participates in performance improvement process initiatives within JPS Health Network and assigned department.
  10. Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Vocational Nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice vocational nursing in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners and must maintain licensure throughout employment.
  • Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • ACLS within 3 months of hire (required in Emergency Department and Critical Care only).
  • EKG test passed within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment (required in Emergency Department and Critical Care only).
  • Completion of Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire and maintains credentialing throughout employment for the Emergency Department.
  • Completion of unit specific competency-based orientation program within 90 days, if applicable.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification must be obtained within 6 weeks of employment (for Inpatient Women's Services only).
  • Approved Education and Training in Non-Violent Crisis De-escalation must be obtained within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment for the Emergency Department.
  • 4875 Licensed Vocational Nurse I: 0 -1.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4876 Licensed Vocational Nurse II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4877 Licensed Vocational Nurse III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4878 Licensed Vocational Nurse IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
