Job Description:
Job Summary: The MRI Technologist I-IV operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
  1. Performs procedures as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols.
  2. Positions patients' appropriately using immobilization and protective equipment as directed by the provider.
  3. Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in established procedures in the proper sequence. Reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to deliver high quality diagnostic images. This includes any required post processing at remote workstations.
  4. Screens and interviews each patient using designated MRI Patient Clinical Assessment Form.
  5. Administers IV contrast with proper dosage according to department policy. Documents dosage in permanent record.
  6. Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacture guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal results. Reports equipment problems/failures to Bio-Med or Manager.
  7. Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in exam room.
  8. Applies and follows radiation safety principles (i.e. ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles) to ensure patient and staff safety.
  9. Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions while maintaining tact, maturity and a positive attitude.
  10. Understands and uses Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other software related to job responsibilities.
  11. Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads.
  12. Ability to work in variable environments and locations.
  13. Performs routine assignments using existing procedures, and has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a discipline, typically acquired through technical training.
  14. Develops competence by performing structured work assignments, and receiving instruction, guidance, and direction from others.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of JCERT approved school of Radiology Technology or ACR approved training course.
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in MRI, the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or MRI certification eligible; must obtain within 12 months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment is required.
  • 4845 MRI Technologist I: 0-1.99 years of experience in medical imaging.
  • 4846 MRI Technologist II: 2-4.99 years of experience in medical imaging.
  • 4847 MRI Technologist III: 5-9.99 years of experience in medical imaging.
  • 4848 MRI Technologist IV: 10 plus years of experience in medical imaging.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified by the State of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
  • Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences.
