Job description

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a Fleet Care Manager to join our growing Aftermarket Support Engineering Team with a focus on leading the development and deployment of our Fleet Care organization in preparation for the commercial launch of our S4 aircraft program. The position will be located at our Santa Cruz or Marina, CA locations. This role will manage a small team of specialists building out fleet care processes, procedures, and infrastructure, and will work cross-functionally with teams across Joby Aviation including engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, and operations to successfully deploy protocols related to fleet management.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure fleet support capabilities and documentation are prepared and deployed in support of the experimental fleet and in preparation for commercial operations

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of fleet care specialists and engineers within the Joby aftermarket organization

  • Manage day-to-day fleet care operations, assign priorities, and balance workloads across urgent field events and long-term strategic initiatives

  • Drive the strategy and execution of fleet support response levels based on field severity (e.g., AOG, Urgent, Routine)

  • Establish, standardize, and optimize workflows and templates for expected in-service issues

  • Run simulations and practice events with OEM and operations stakeholders prior to commercial entry into service

  • Collaborate closely with the manufacturing organization to align aftermarket and fleet care support strategies

  • Synthesize field feedback to systematically improve fleet care processes, tools, and overall ways of working

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation Maintenance, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in an aircraft OEM or aircraft engineering/maintenance role, including at least 2+ years of formal people management or direct team leadership experience

  • Strong communication skills with a proven track record of motivating teams and influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable acting as a senior escalation point, managing complex and evolving situations with the ability to de-escalate
  • Self-starter comfortable solving open-ended problems and managing ambiguous, complex timelines
Desired
  • Experience in a first or second line customer support or field service leadership role in an OEM or equivalent entity (Aviation preferred)
  • Experience navigating fast-evolving organizations and guiding teams through change management
