Job description

Company Overview
Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.
Overview
The Facilities Development Senior Project Manager delivers capital projects from concept through commissioning at sites within Joby's multi-site portfolio (R&D, manufacturing, flight test, office, and support facilities). Operating as a specialist individual contributor within the Facilities Development PMO, this role owns project workstreams end to end, managing large projects with limited oversight and partnering across teams to solve complex delivery challenges.
Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end delivery of capital projects, typically $1M-$15M, with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and quality
  • Manage feasibility, programming, design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and turnover activities with limited oversight from the PMO Lead
  • Provide solutions to complex project issues in creative and effective ways, exhibiting in-depth knowledge of delivery methods and an understanding of company objectives
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, change control, and stakeholder reporting; escalate risks and trade-offs with clear recommendations
  • Lead selection and day-to-day management of architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants
  • Partner with Workplace, Facilities Maintenance, IT, Security, EHS, and other teams to provide professional expertise on complex matters and ensure operational readiness, considering downstream implications of project decisions
  • Frequently advise stakeholders and peers on project delivery matters; contribute to PMO templates and processes
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, FAA/airport requirements (when applicable), environmental regulations, and internal standards

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field plus 6+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent practical experience
  • In-depth experience managing facilities or construction projects of diverse scope, including independently managing large projects or major workstreams
  • Strong knowledge of building systems (MEP, structural, civil)
  • Advanced budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control skills; sound judgment on issues where errors would require a project plan revision and cost significant time or money
  • Ability to partner effectively across teams and communicate clearly with stakeholders, including senior leaders
  • Proficiency with PM tools such as Smartsheet, MS Project, Procore, or Bluebeam

Desired
  • Experience with industrial, manufacturing, aviation, or airport facilities
  • Professional certifications (PMP, CCM, PE, LEED AP, or similar)
  • Familiarity with FAA processes and environmental reviews (CEQA/NEPA)
  • Experience supporting fast-growing or highly regulated environments
