Job description

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

Working as a Composite M&P Engineering Technician at our Dayton, Ohio facility (JMO), you will support propeller blade process development activities leading to the certification and production of eVTOL aircraft. The role requires hands-on composite fabrication experience and a strong desire to work directly on the shop floor. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled engineering technician who thrives at the intersection of fabrication and process development, bridging the gap between engineering and manufacturing, and possesses the ability to work with minimal supervision within a small, focused team.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize composite manufacturing processes for propeller blade fabrication, including dry fiber layup, resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum bagging, curing, demolding, and post-cure operations
  • Support RTM process development using injection equipment, including resin system evaluation, injection parameter development, and mold fill studies
  • Perform hands-on composite fabrication in the blade development cell, working alongside production technicians
  • Execute laser-projected layup operations using lamination tables and blade truss structures
  • Fabricate batch acceptance test panels in support of material qualification and process validation activities
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs), and process specifications for blade manufacturing operations
  • Interpret and work with engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications for composite laminate and bonded structures
  • Record and analyze process data; document and communicate non-conformances and support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities
  • Prepare and maintain molds, tooling, and fixtures associated with blade fabrication and development operations
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, following all Joby safety procedures and OSHA regulations
Required
  • Minimum 6+ years of relevant hands-on industry experience
  • Demonstrated hands-on composite fabrication experience
  • Familiarity with composite manufacturing processes such as dry fiber layup, prepreg layup, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, or RTM
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills with a commitment to workmanship quality
  • Problem-solving mindset with a willingness to work on the shop floor and collaborate effectively with technicians and engineers
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and general computer skills
Desired
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Experience with RTM or liquid composite molding processes, specifically injection-based systems
  • Experience with laser projection systems for composite layup (e.g., Virtek, Aligned Vision)
  • Familiarity with propeller or rotating composite structure fabrication and metal-to-composite bonding
  • Experience developing or following aerospace process specifications and work instructions
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems, NCR processes, and FAA-regulated manufacturing environments
  • Experience with ERP/MES systems for production tracking (e.g., ION)
  • Proficiency in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (3DX) or SolidWorks (Engineer track)
