Overview

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe COBOL Developer / Test Automation Engineer position for our client.

Location: Bakersfield, CA

Duration: 12 months

Duties:

  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into detailed technical specifications, program logic, and development solutions.

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain mainframe applications supporting healthcare claims processing.

  • Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM within a CA-MMIS mainframe environment.

  • Perform unit, integration, system, and regression testing to ensure application quality and reliability.

  • Develop and execute automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve application defects and production issues.

  • Review existing application code and recommend enhancements, improvements, and automation opportunities.

  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, testers, and other technical teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Document technical specifications, test results, defects, and application changes.

  • Support application releases and ensure solutions meet business, technical, and quality requirements.

Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM.

  • Experience developing and maintaining mainframe applications in a CA-MMIS environment.

  • Knowledge of healthcare claims processing is preferred.

  • Experience with unit, integration, and regression testing.

  • Experience with test automation tools, particularly Selenium.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and mainframe program logic.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and business teams.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working with mainframe applications.

  • Hands-on experience with COBOL development and mainframe technologies including JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM.

  • Experience developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining enterprise mainframe applications.

  • Experience with automated testing and Selenium is required.

  • Healthcare claims processing experience is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • Equivalent education and relevant professional experience may be considered.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $50.00 to $60.00/hour.
