Job description

Job Description:
At Pentair, you will work alongside passionate problem-solvers who are committed to the future of our planet. We put our mission into practice, helping the world sustainably move, improve, and enjoy water, life's most essential resource. From our residential water filtration to industrial water management to pool products and more, our 9,000 global employees serve customers in more than 150 countries, working to help create a better world for people and the planet through smart, sustainable water solutions.
We have an opportunity for a Data Architect to join our Apex, NC team. You will work globally to unify and elevate the data strategy across our IoT edge-to-cloud product ecosystem. In this role, you will work across four engineering verticals-each responsible for its own end-to-end product line-to standardize how our devices communicate, how we model and store data, and how we build the foundation for the analytics and AI capabilities of the future. If you love bringing order to complex systems, collaborating with diverse teams, and designing data structures that scale across products, this role offers the chance to make a major impact.
You will:
  • Architect & Standardize the Data Ecosystem
    • Define unified data models across devices, services, and cloud platforms.
    • Establish standards for communication protocols, messaging structures, and API patterns.
    • Create best practices for edge ingestion, cloud data pipelines, and scalable storage systems.
  • Drive Cross-Team Alignment
    • Partner with engineering leaders across multiple product verticals to ensure consistent design approaches.
    • Lead architectural reviews and guide teams through complex data decisions.
    • Bring together firmware, software, cloud, and product teams to align shared data and integration strategies.
  • Build the Foundation for Analytics & AI
    • Develop data structures that support robust reporting, dashboards, and KPI frameworks.
    • Prepare the environment for machine learning initiatives, including anomaly detection, predictive models, and automation insights.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance product intelligence through better data design.
  • Build Governance & Standardization
    • Maintain architectural guidelines, reference models, and data dictionaries.
    • Introduce governance processes that ensure data quality and standardization across product lines.
    • Provide clear, accessible documentation for engineering teams and stakeholders.

Key Qualifications:
  • Completed bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience as a Data Architect
  • Strong background in data architecture, systems design, or IoT solution architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with edge-to-cloud data flows, time-series data, and distributed systems.
  • Deep knowledge of communication patterns such as MQTT, REST, event-driven messaging, or similar.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms and modern data storage technologies.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence architectural direction.
  • Experience with IoT telemetry, embedded systems, or connected consumer products.
  • Familiarity with event hubs, message brokers, and time-series databases.
  • Exposure to analytics, machine-learning frameworks, or data science concepts.
  • A background designing or implementing data governance processes.
