Job description

Program Coordinator, New York
Jewish Graduate Organization (JGO)
About JGO
The Jewish Graduate Organization (JGO) builds Jewish community for graduate students and young professionals across the country. Through campus partnerships, programming, events, and leadership opportunities, JGO connects Jewish graduate students to community, resources, and one another.
JGO is launching a new townhouse space that will serve as a hub for Jewish graduate student community, programming, and connection. We are looking for a warm, organized, and enthusiastic Part-Time Engagement & Program Coordinator to help bring the space to life.
About the Role
This is a part-time, hourly position for someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships, keeping things organized, and being part of a growing organization.
The Coordinator will work closely with JGO's programming team and Northeast Engagement Manager to support both the day-to-day operations of the townhouse and the growth of JGO's New York community. This includes helping prepare the space for events, welcoming students, coordinating food and supplies, building relationships with students and young professionals, and helping recruit participants for key JGO programs and community events.
Importantly, this role is not just about logistics. The Coordinator will help build relationships with students, get to know the people coming through the townhouse, and help students feel connected to JGO and to one another. The ideal candidate is someone who naturally notices people, enjoys starting conversations, remembers faces and names, and is excited to help turn the townhouse into a real community hub.
The Coordinator will also have an opportunity to take ownership of building JGO's young professionals community in New York, spearheading outreach and recruitment for several large events throughout the year and developing relationships that can grow into ongoing community engagement.
This is also an opportunity for someone who is interested in nonprofit work and would like to grow with JGO over time, potentially taking on additional engagement, programming, and organizational responsibilities as the role and organization grow.
Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Build genuine relationships with Jewish graduate students who participate in JGO programs and use the townhouse
  • Welcome students as they arrive and proactively introduce yourself, start conversations, and help students feel comfortable
  • Get to know students, their interests, and their involvement with JGO, and help connect them to relevant programs, opportunities, and staff
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with students beyond individual events through follow-up, check-ins, and invitations to future programs
  • Identify students who may be interested in becoming more involved with JGO and share those opportunities with the appropriate JGO staff
  • Serve as a warm and consistent JGO presence at the townhouse and help create an environment where students want to return
  • Share relevant student feedback, interests, and engagement opportunities with the Northeast Engagement Manager and programming team
  • Help strengthen connections between students and the broader JGO community

Young Professionals Community Building
  • Help build and grow JGO's young professionals community in New York City, with a focus on creating an active and engaged network beyond the graduate student population
  • Spearhead recruitment and outreach for several large young professional events throughout the year, identifying and personally engaging prospective participants
  • Build relationships with young professionals and encourage them to become part of JGO's broader community
  • Conduct targeted outreach through personal follow-up, email, social media, and other channels to drive participation in events
  • Help develop a strong pipeline of young professionals who can be engaged in future JGO programs and opportunities
  • Work closely with the programming and engagement teams to plan and execute several high-quality community-building events each year
  • Track outreach and engagement and share insights about what is resonating with the NYC young professional community

Townhouse & Event Logistics
  • Help prepare the townhouse for JGO programs, events, and gatherings
  • Set up tables, chairs, food, supplies, signage, and other materials as needed
  • Help clean up and reset the space following programs
  • Ensure the townhouse is welcoming, organized, and ready for students
  • Be present for food and supply deliveries and help coordinate their receipt and setup
  • Assist with ordering food, beverages, and program supplies
  • Work with JGO's programming team to ensure all logistical needs are handled

Program Support
  • Support JGO staff with the execution of events and programming
  • Help create a welcoming and engaging experience for students before, during, and after programs
  • Help troubleshoot logistical issues that arise before or during programs
  • Assist with outreach and follow-up to students around upcoming programs and events
  • Take on additional event and administrative tasks as needed
  • Be willing to jump in wherever help is needed to make a program successful

Who We're Looking For
  • Warm, friendly, and genuinely excited to interact with students and young adults
  • Someone who naturally builds relationships and enjoys getting to know new people
  • Organized, reliable, and proactive
  • Someone who enjoys being hands-on and doesn't mind jumping in to get things done
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working independently while also being part of a team
  • Interested in Jewish community-building and/or nonprofit work
  • Able to make students and young professionals feel welcomed, seen, and comfortable in a new space
  • Available for several evenings per week for a few hours at a time, particularly around JGO programming
  • Someone who is looking for part-time work now, but is interested in potentially growing into a larger role within JGO in the future

Prior event, hospitality, nonprofit, or community-building experience is a plus, but not required. We are much more interested in someone who is dependable, personable, enthusiastic, and excited to be part of what JGO is building.
Position Details
Position: Part-Time Engagement & Program Coordinator
Schedule: Approximately 10-12 hours per week; primarily evenings, 3-4 nights a week, a few hours at a time, based on JGO programming needs
Compensation:
$20/hour
Location: JGO Townhouse, New York City
Growth Opportunity: The role has room to grow over time, with the potential to take on additional hours, responsibilities, and engagement/programming work as JGO's New York presence expands.
Why JGO?
This is an opportunity to join JGO at an exciting moment of growth. The townhouse will become an important gathering place for Jewish graduate students, and this role will be instrumental in helping create a space where students feel welcomed, connected, and part of a community.
You will have the opportunity to be one of the familiar faces students and young professionals come to know at JGO - helping create relationships, connect people to opportunities, and build the culture of the townhouse and NYC community from the ground up.
For the right person, this role can be a starting point for growing within JGO, taking on additional responsibilities and potentially transitioning into a larger or full-time position as the organization continues to grow.
