Posting Title: Project Controller
Reports To: Manager, Construction Accounting
Location: Port Washington, WI
Salary Range: $125,000 to $160,000

THE FINANCE TEAM 
Our projects may be complex, but our approach is simple: we build great things and we do it with great people. The Finance team at Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) provides employees, stakeholders and customers with timely and accurate financial information. The Finance Department is comprised of seven teams: Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing, GL, FP&A, Tax, and Project Accounting that work closely together to ensure compliance and the financial well-being of the company.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This position will be responsible to work on project-level cost management on a Project in Port Washington, WI. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience working in the electrical construction industry with high-level skills in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cost control.  This role will be instrumental in ensuring project financials are up-to-date and accurate so that the team can ensure a financially successful project.  This will be accomplished by the candidate’s strong track record of financial project controls experience and a disciplined approach to cost management.

This position will report to the Director, Project Accounting with day-to-day to communication and coordination to the on-site project team.

  • Billing: Coordinate with billing department to ensure invoice accuracy (all required documents are included in the monthly invoice package).
  • Project Budgets: Work with project team and manager to ensure that the budgets are cost coded correctly and entered into JDEdwards (JDE).
  • Change Order Management: Direct responsibility to ensure team is submitting change orders to owner, maintaining and auditing change order logs, and submitting to corporate department for entry into JDE. Track change orders in the system and updating approval status based on documentation.  Will work with management to create change order templates from change order estimate, review change orders for accuracy and correct coding. 
  • Subcontractor Management: Obtain and review subcontract invoices and lien waivers for compliance with contract documents.  Work with team to audit invoices submitted in Textura for payment and track to completion.  Manage change order process for subcontractors. Track subcontractor costs against project budgets. Advise on any risks with subcontractors.
  • Project cost management: Review weekly financial reports and provide guidance and discuss any issues with project team and management. 
  • Cash flow management: Develop and maintain system of managing and communicate cash flow based on analysis of past costs and future spending. Identify any issues and provide solutions to achieve a cash-flow positive project.
  • Sales Tax Management: Ensure that material is correctly purchased so that sales/use taxes are paid correctly.  Work with subcontractors/vendors for sales tax compliance.
  • Material Cost Management: Ensure values are reflected in JDE correctly against vendor procurement log for major equipment purchases. Review purchase orders to ensure material is coded to the correct cost code and project number.  Manage change orders to vendors. Work with purchasing and project team to clear up any problem invoices. 
  • Equipment Rentals: Develop and implement process to track all rental equipment on site and the costs to be realized.  Work with purchasing to ensure costs are accurate for the purchase orders written.  Provide financial impacts to project team for equipment rental costs for the project.
  • Forecasting and financial review: Deliver clear, accurate, and timely financial reports to the project team and assist with measuring actual costs, committed costs versus budgeted costs.  Assist with explaining any variances. Be an active participant in monthly project financial reviews with upper management.

  • Strong knowledge of project controls – cost codes, subcontractor management, earned value management, forecasting
  • Knowledge of construction operations and cost management
  • Knowledge of JDEdwards business system preferred
  • Knowledge of Purchase orders and processes,
  • Knowledge of GAAP and SOX requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines, effectively communicate and work with other departments
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and work with minimal supervision, be detailed and focused, and have a collaborative attitude
  • Skill in understanding electrical material and equipment
  • Skill in electrical construction and processes and procedures
  • Skill in reading contracts for legal and financial issues
  • Work with cross functional teams and external subcontractors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Experience: 7+ years of progressively responsible directly related work experience including managing and leading programs, work units, or departments of comparable size, scope, and complexity.
