Senior Operations Manager
Position Overview
The Senior Operations Manager will lead and optimize manufacturing operations to deliver on-time, high-quality products while maximizing productivity, reducing cost, and ensuring a safe work environment. This role combines strategic planning, hands-on shop floor leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement to improve OEE, streamline production planning and scheduling, and scale operations to meet customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day manufacturing and operations activities, setting priorities, staffing, and performance expectations for production, maintenance and quality teams.
- Develop, implement and manage production planning, scheduling and capacity planning processes to meet customer delivery targets and optimize resource utilization.
- Oversee MRP/ERP-driven workflows (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards or similar) to ensure accurate demand planning, material availability, and BOM maintenance.
- Drive continuous improvement programs (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, SMED, JIT) to increase throughput, reduce waste, and lower unit cost.
- Manage inventory control, BOM management, and supply chain coordination to minimize lead time and carrying costs while avoiding stockouts.
- Supervise CNC machining, PLC programming/diagnostics, industrial automation and process engineering efforts to improve reliability, cycle time and quality.
- Lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs using CMMS to maximize equipment uptime and improve OEE.
- Implement and maintain production reporting and KPI dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, Advanced Excel) to provide real-time visibility into performance, capacity and cost metrics.
- Enforce quality control systems and corrective action processes (NCR management), driving root cause analysis, FMEA and SPC to reduce defects and rework.
- Oversee tooling and fixture design, shop floor layout and standard work documentation to support efficient, repeatable processes.
- Partner with engineering and PLM teams, using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to transfer product designs to manufacturing and drive manufacturability improvements.
- Ensure OSHA and site safety compliance, lead safety programs, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and employee development.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of manufacturing operations experience with at least 35 years in a Senior Operations Manager or equivalent leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience with production planning, scheduling, capacity planning and MRP/ERP systems (experience with SAP, Oracle or JD Edwards highly desirable).
- Proven track record implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, SMED and JIT methodologies to drive measurable improvements.
- Experience with inventory management, BOM management and supply chain coordination in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of CNC machining processes, PLC programming/diagnostics and industrial automation; experience collaborating with process engineering teams.
- Strong familiarity with maintenance programs and CMMS for preventive/predictive maintenance and OEE optimization.
- Proficient in quality tools and methodologies including SPC, RCA, FMEA, and corrective action management.
- Hands-on experience with tooling/fixture design and shop floor management; ability to standardize work and document processes.
- Technical software skills: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Minitab, Power BI or Tableau, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills with a results-oriented, data-driven approach.
- Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance (OSHA) and proven ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce cost and improve quality.
