We are seeking a talented Back-End Developer to join our team and help build scalable, high-quality applications. The ideal candidate is comfortable working backend services and databases-and has a strong understanding of modern development practices, automation, and cloud native architecture. This role will also contribute to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes using tools such as Ansible and Terraform.Â
This role requires full-time, on-site presence, Monday through Friday, at our customer location with the U.S. Space Force in Colorado Springs, CO.Â
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain back end web applications, APIs, and backend services.Â
- Build, optimize, and scale server-side logic, data models, and database integrations.Â
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated builds, testing, and deployments.Â
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to define and deliver technical solutions.Â
- Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and the development of engineering best practices.Â
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code and contribute to automated testing frameworks.Â
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across the full application stack and support infrastructure.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, DevSecOps trends, and automation practices to  recommend continuous improvements.Â
Education/Qualifications
Required:
- U.S. citizenship required, with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense TS/SCI clearance; Non-U.S. citizens cannot be considered.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 18+ years of software development experience ~OR~ a Master's degree with 10+ years of experience.
- Availability to work on-site five days per week in Colorado Springs, CO.Â
- Strong proficiency with server-side languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, or similar).Â
- Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.Â
- Familiarity with AWS and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).Â
- Hands-on experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines with GitLab (CLI and Runners).Â
- Understanding of automation and infrastructure-as-code concepts as well as experience using Terraform.Â
- Experience using Ansible for configuration management and system provisioning.Â
- Experience using Jira to support agile software development, sprint planning, backlog management, and defect tracking.
- Familiarity with Linux command-line tools, scripting, and system troubleshooting within Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.Â
Preferred:Â
- Proficiency with front-end technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks like such as React or Angular.
- Experience with microservices or event-driven architectures.Â
- Knowledge of API design principles and best practices (REST).Â
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks for both frontend and backend systems.Â
- Understanding of security best practices, secure coding, secrets management, SBOMs generation, and DevSecOps metrics (DORA).Â
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.Â
- Background in agile methodologies and DevSecOps workflows.Â
For this role, the compensation range for candidates in Colorado is $123k - 200k*.
*Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. FTI has a location-based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
