Role Overview

The Finance Systems Senior Solution Architect is a strategic leadership role, acting as the primary technical owner and visionary for the portfolio of applications supporting the Controllers, Financial Services and Treasury divisions. This individual is responsible for defining the long-term architectural strategy, availability, security, and overall performance of BCBSMA's core financial platforms. This includes Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and other backend finance applications. The architect will partner with Finance leadership to create a multi-year technology roadmap, drive innovation by evaluating and integrating emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), and ensure all solutions align withand translate frombroader enterprise architecture principles.

This position is eligible for the Flex persona.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a multi-year technology roadmap for Finance systems, ensuring it aligns with both business objectives and enterprise-wide technology strategy.
  • Serve as the lead architect for the design, implementation, and support of all backend Finance applications, providing strategic direction on technology selection and lifecycle management.
  • Translate enterprise guidelines into concrete architectural decisions, creating detailed solution designs that can be used by technical implementation teams.
  • Design and implement robust technical controls across all finance systems to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify, visualize, and document end-to-end data flows and how applications within the finance ecosystem will work together from a technical perspective.
  • Take ownership of problem definition and solutioning when technical issues or system gaps arise, facilitating discussions across multiple technical teams to drive resolution.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to drive process automation, predictive analytics, and enhanced financial controls.
  • Create and own technical designs and specification documents for new financial systems and enhancements, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and forward-looking.
  • Work directly with business partners,project managers,and internal IT stakeholders tomanage technical interdependencies and sequence activities across teams.
  • Guarantee all financial systems adhere to strict security compliance, IT administrative controls, and internal/external audit requirements.

Technical Experience

  • Proven experience in a strategic role, with demonstrated ability to create technology vision and develop multi-year roadmaps.
  • Deep experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is highly desired. Knowledge of Oracle Financials is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong familiarity with applying AI/ML technologies to business problems, such as process automation, predictive modeling, or anomaly detection.
  • Hands-on architecture, design, and development experience with enterprise-scale applications, particularly supporting backend Finance functionsand vendor SaaS solution integration.
  • Firsthand knowledge of financial processes such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is preferred.
  • Hands-on development experience with relevant programming languages and database technologies (e.g., SQL, Java, etc.).

  • Ability to summarize and lead conversations with business partners, describing options, risks, and cost/benefit tradeoffs when multiple technical solutions need to be evaluated.

  • Willingness to work beyond core business hours to restore services and complete critical system upgrades.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related work experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience within Information Technology, with a significant portion in a strategic or architectural capacity.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience delivering solutions for enterprise business systems, with a focus on financial applications.
  • Experience with application design, implementation, and troubleshooting in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Experience working within healthcare and familiarity with HIPAA, HiTrust, and SOC audit/compliance requirements is preferred.

An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
