Job Title

Manager, Software Development I - Clover App Market

About Your Role

Join the high-growth Clover App Market Engineering team at Fiserv, where we are transforming the future of business management and financial technology. Clover delivers an elegant, end-to-end Point of Sale (POS) ecosystem powering millions of merchants worldwide-from neighborhood cafes to major stadium venues. As a Manager, Software Development I, you will lead an initial team of 3 to 5 talented Java software engineers, with a clear trajectory for team expansion. In this role, you will serve as both a people leader and technical anchor. While day-to-day coding is optional (you are welcome to stay hands-on if you enjoy it!), you will leverage your deep Java technical background to guide system architecture, champion engineering standards, and empower your team to build scalable, high-throughput applications.

What You'll Do

  • People Leadership & Growth: Manage, coach, and mentor an initial team of 3-5 engineers (with room to grow), fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and accountability.
  • Technical Guidance & Architecture: Serve as the technical authority for your team's Java services. Oversee system design, review architecture, and guide technical decision-making-with the flexibility to jump into code when desired.
  • Delivery & Agile Execution: Drive project roadmaps in an Agile environment, ensuring predictable, high-quality feature delivery while proactively mitigating technical risks.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management, Design, QA, and Security leadership to translate business vision into clean, extensible technical specifications.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee code quality, testing standards, CI/CD pipeline automation, and system reliability across cloud-hosted services.

Experience You'll Need to Have

  • Education & Seniority: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, paired with 6+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
  • People Management: 3+ years of experience directly leading, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams.
  • Java Domain Mastery: 3+ years of strong technical experience within the Java/JVM ecosystem (Java, Kotlin), with the ability to lead architectural discussions and review complex backend code.
  • Database & Data Layer: 3+ years of experience working with SQL databases and relational data modeling.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: 3+ years of hands-on experience developing or deploying applications in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • DevOps & Delivery: 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).

Experience That Would Be Great to Have

  • Database Expertise: Hands-on experience with MySQL or similar high-scale relational engines.
  • Microservices Architecture: Experience architecting or operating distributed, cloud-native microservices and RESTful APIs consumed by web frameworks (e.g., React).
  • Fintech / Payments Domain: Experience building platforms within payments, e-commerce, banking, or POS ecosystem integrations.
  • Engineering Velocity & Tooling: Familiarity with modern developer tools, observability platforms, or AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot).

How you'll work:

  • This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
  • This role requires use of a computer and audio equipment.

Sponsorship:

  • You must currently possess valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization to be considered for this role. Individuals with temporary visas including, but not limited to, F-1 (OPT, CPT, STEM), H-1B, H-2, or TN, or any candidate requiring sponsorship, now or in the future, will not be considered for this role.

Benefits at Fiserv:

  • Fuel Your Life program to support your physical, financial, social, and emotional well-being
  • Paid holidays and generous time away policies
  • No-cost mental health support through Employee Assistance Programs
  • Living Proof program to recognize your peers' extra effort with points redeemable for rewards
  • Eight Employee Resource Groups to foster a collaborative culture and expand your network
  • Unparalleled professional growth with training, development, and internal mobility opportunities
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance options available from day one
  • Retirement planning and discounted shares with the Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Tuition assistance and reimbursement program
  • Paid parental, caregiver, and military leave
