Is Java in demand in 2026?

Java remains a highly in-demand programming language for Java Developer internships and full-time roles due to its widespread use in enterprise applications, Android development, and backend systems. Skills in Java, along with familiarity with frameworks like Spring and tools such as Maven, continue to be valuable for employers in 2026.

What is a Java Developer Internship Remote job?

A Java Developer Internship Remote job is a temporary, training-focused position where interns gain hands-on experience in Java development while working remotely. Interns typically assist in coding, debugging, testing, and maintaining Java-based applications under the guidance of experienced developers. The role helps students or recent graduates build practical skills, gain industry experience, and enhance their resume for future career opportunities.

What does a typical day look like for a remote Java Developer intern?

As a remote Java Developer intern, your typical day involves collaborating with your team via virtual meetings, writing and debugging Java code, and working on assigned software development tasks or projects. You may participate in daily stand-ups to discuss progress, learn about Agile methodologies, and receive feedback from mentors or senior developers. Much of your time will be spent coding, troubleshooting, and reviewing pull requests using collaboration tools like GitHub or Bitbucket. This structure provides plenty of opportunities for skill-building, networking, and contributing to meaningful projects while gaining insight into real-world software development practices.

Is it possible to get a remote internship?

A remote Java Developer Internship is often available, especially with companies that support remote work and flexible schedules. Applicants typically need to demonstrate programming skills in Java, familiarity with development tools, and a willingness to work independently in a virtual environment.

Will AI replace Java devs?

AI is unlikely to fully replace Java developers, as the role requires complex problem-solving, creativity, and understanding of business needs that AI cannot replicate. Instead, AI tools can assist Java developers by automating repetitive tasks and improving productivity, making their skills more valuable. Continuous learning and adapting to new technologies remain important for Java developers in an evolving tech environment.

Can you work remotely as an intern?

A Java Developer Internship can often be performed remotely, depending on the company's policies. Many internships now offer remote options, requiring strong communication skills and familiarity with collaboration tools like Git and Slack. Applicants should verify the specific internship listing for remote work availability and requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Java Developer Internship Remote position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Java Developer Internship Remote, you need a foundational understanding of Java programming, object-oriented principles, and basic software development concepts, typically supported by ongoing or completed studies in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs) like IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse, version control systems such as Git, and optionally, introductory certifications in Java are highly beneficial. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time-management skills set candidates apart in a remote setting. These skills and qualities ensure you can effectively contribute to projects, collaborate virtually, and learn quickly in a distributed team environment.

Job description

Guidewire Developer

As our Guidewire Developer, you will use a variety of tools to help us add functionality and prevent issues in our Guidewire software, specifically in

PolicyCenter transitioning several markets to the Guidewire system.

This is a remote role but does require 2 onsite days a month.

Must live within 100 miles of Coppell, TX. We cannot sponsor for this role.

What You'll Do

  • Every day you will be working on your sprint stories. We work in 2-week sprints using Agile framework. Most days are development days. You'll be coding in Gosu, using Studio - a version of IntelliJ customized for Guidewire development.

  • Your development story for that sprint may include batches, user interface (UI) changes, message queues, web service integrations, making changes to page configuration files or writing unit tests using Guidewire's unit testing framework.

  • All of our developers also support testing stories by designing or executing testing plans.

  • You will also make presentations to other developers during our code review sessions. Depending on the complexity of the tasks reviewed, this can be as few as 2 teammates or the whole team of over 70 developers on a dev forum. You will also present stories you've worked on during sprint reviews including the development team as well as product owners and other stakeholders. You may also present at these meetings to over 100 people.

What You'll Need

  • To thrive in this role, you should have experience in a production environment. You know you will sometimes be on call. You'll triage any tickets that come in, troubleshoot, fix bugs, and review logs to get to the root cause of any issues.

  • You have worked previously with an Agile team or understand these concepts. You can expect to participate in daily standup meetings, you'll complete your projects or stories during our sprints, and you're ready to meet frequent deployment deadlines.

  • Prior experience with Guidewire is excellent, particularly if you've worked with PolicyCenter doing integration and configurations.

  • You have extensive experience with Java, Javascript, SQL, Gosu, IntelliJ, and Studio for coding new features, and you're able to use Mulesoft to build APIs and React or Node.js to work on digital apps.

  • Integration with different web services is a key component of this role, so your understanding of Postman, simple object access protocol (SOAP), and representational state transfer (REST) will be helpful.

  • You're comfortable speaking and presenting in front of 20 or more people. You are able to clarify and explain complex technical concepts to others who may be less tech savvy
