A prominent national accounting and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Audit Manager (Bilingual: Japanese / English) to join its growing Japanese Services Practice in the Metro Detroit area. This is a key leadership role serving Japanese corporate clients in North America, overseeing audit engagements, and working alongside both local and international teams.

Our firm is committed to a healthy work-life balance—offering structured busy-season hours, weekend protections, and an exceptional collaborative environment compared to traditional Big 4 firms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, and execute audit engagements for U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese parent companies (primarily in manufacturing, logistics, and trading sectors).
  • Act as the primary liaison between local U.S. management, Japanese executive teams, and multicultural engagement staff.
  • Review financial statements, audit documentation, and internal control assessments in compliance with U.S. GAAP and auditing standards.
  • Manage engagement economics, project timelines, budgets, and staff allocation.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise senior accountants and audit staff.
  • Support business development and networking opportunities with Japanese business leadership in the region.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Language Skills: Professional fluency in Japanese and English (both written and spoken) is required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of public accounting audit experience (Audit Senior, Supervisor, or Manager level). Public accounting firm experience required (Big 4 or mid-tier firm background preferred).
  • Education & Certification: Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA license strongly preferred (or active eligibility).
  • Work Arrangement: Onsite/Hybrid availability in the Troy, MI area (100% fully remote is not permitted).
  • Relocation: Candidates willing to relocate from other states are encouraged to apply (relocation reimbursement provided).
  • Work Authorization: U.S. work authorization required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary ($115,000 – $145,000 depending on experience) plus annual performance bonus.
  • Relocation stipend / reimbursement package for out-of-state candidates.
  • Balanced working hours with summer/busy-season flexible policies.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, and paid time off (PTO).
