Summary of Role: The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) is responsible for providing fair, balanced, objective, scientific information and education to opinion leaders (OLs), health care professionals, and internal partners as required by scientific and business needs. The Sr. MSL is an established scientific and clinical knowledge lead on current and future J&J Innovative Medicine products per Therapeutic Area (TA) alignment. The Sr. MSL stays current on scientific and treatment landscape trends in their therapeutic areas of interest and provides research support for company and investigator-initiated research. The Sr MSL operates with integrity and adheres to credo values.

The Sr. MSL builds external relationships with identified OLs and health care providers (MD, PA, NP, RN, Pharm.D., biocoordinators) and develops and manages a geographical territory. Engagements can be virtual or in-person, with a prioritization of in-person engagements when appropriate. The Sr. MSL develops and maintains a territory strategic plan, including educational activities with OLs, HCPs, institutions, and community practices.

Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Develop and maintain a field strategic plan.
  • Respond to unsolicited scientific inquiries from HCPs, investigators, health care systems, and decision makers, integrating scientific data including real-world evidence into practice.
  • Present data and information appropriate to the audience and request.
  • Execute plans regarding reactive and proactive outreaches as approved via the legal/HCC exceptions process.
  • Integrate scientific data into real-life practice to meet customer needs, adapting interpersonal style to the situation.
  • Anticipate responses of various individuals and teams based on perspectives.
  • Prioritize franchise customer-based initiatives and field responsibilities while balancing administrative duties and projects.

Research and Scientific Engagement:

  • Leverage knowledge of standards of care and Janssen company/investigator-sponsored trials and competitor landscape to facilitate external-internal research communication.
  • Engage with external investigators regarding unsolicited research inquiries and act as liaison to R&D, Medical Affairs and operations teams.
  • Provide clinical trial support to identify potential sites, resolve issues with enrolled sites, and participate in meetings including site initiation visits and investigator launch meetings.
  • Lead at least one scientific or strategic Immunology project, identify educational gaps, and elevate team acumen.

Scientific Acumen and Representation:

  • Actively participate in team calls, trainings, and journal clubs; stay informed on current standard of care and share scientific news.
  • Attend and provide leadership at scientific conferences to gather new information relevant to the company and external scientific community.
  • Document and share medical insights; synthesize data for MSL team and partners.
  • Dedicate time for self-driven learning on the current scientific landscape.
  • Represent and support JNJ at relevant scientific or stakeholder meetings including congresses, symposia, advisory boards, and investigator meetings; represent JNJ at speaking engagements.

Department Operations and Internal Partners:

  • Perform administrative requirements in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner (e.g., expense reports, activity documentation).
  • Maintain focus and composure in uncertain circumstances with minimal direction.
  • Provide regional and local support to enhance sales training and improve field competencies in partnership with Sales Learning and Development.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all field-based partners and other Immunology MSL teams regularly.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead or participate in large-scale projects; maintain understanding of regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines and Medical Affairs SOPs.

Qualifications:

  • PharmD, PhD, MD, or other advanced medical degree; NP/PA with relevant TA clinical experience.
  • 3+ years of MSL experience, and/or 3+ years in clinical, research, or related pharma work experience.
  • Significant experience giving presentations.
  • Ability to travel up to 75-80% including overnight and some weekends.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Residency within the defined assigned territory.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge or experience in the relevant TA and/or Immunology.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and remote technologies.
  • Reside in Seattle, Washington Metro area.

sueldo and benefits information: pay ranges are provided below; exact numbers may vary by location and plan.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The expected base pay range for this position is $137,000 to $235,750.
  • This position is eligible for a company car through the Company’s FLEET program and may be eligible for an annual performance bonus per applicable plan.
  • Employee benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and other plans as described by company policy; retirement plan (401(k)) and time-off benefits are available as described in plan documents.
