POSITION: Spectrum Warfare Engineer
LOCATION: Fairborn, Ohio, WPAFB
REQUIRED SECURITY CLEARANCE: Top Secret / SCI
POSITION TYPE/STANDARD WORK HOURS: Full Time, 40 hours, On-site
THE OPPORTUNITY:
BTAS is recruiting a Spectrum Warfare Engineer with combined expertise in offensive and defensive cyber operations, Radio Frequency (RF) systems, Electronic Warfare (EW), and UAV hardware to support AFRL Center for Rapid Innovation research and development initiatives. This role provides advanced technical analysis at the intersection of embedded systems, communications, autonomous platforms, and tactical defense technologies. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in RF engineering, EW, signal processing, autonomous systems, and cyber operations supporting advanced defense applications.
The Spectrum Warfare Engineer will support the development, testing, evaluation, and integration of offensive and defensive spectrum warfare capabilities. The position requires expertise in embedded systems, RF communications, cyber operations, EW technologies, and tactical mission systems supporting Department of War research efforts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct research, development, analysis, and testing of offensive and defensive cyber and spectrum warfare technologies.
  • Support the development and evaluation of RF, EW, SDR, and autonomous systems technologies.
  • Analyze vulnerabilities in embedded systems, wireless protocols, UAV command-and-control systems, and RF communications architectures.
  • Confers with principal engineers, project engineers, systems engineers, and technical engineers to provide technical advice and to assist with project resolution as needed.
  • Perform penetration testing, embedded device exploitation, wireless protocol analysis, and SDR-based attack assessments.
  • Support development of cyber and EW defensive capabilities including detection engineering, intrusion detection/prevention, RF anomaly detection, and secure embedded system design.
  • Conduct RF signal analysis, spectrum characterization, interference analysis, and electronic attack/electronic protection evaluations.
  • Develop and evaluate EW countermeasure strategies including anti-jam systems, spectrum resilience, frequency hopping, and LPI/LPD techniques.
  • Support testing and operational assessments utilizing spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers (VNAs), oscilloscopes, SDR platforms, RF test chambers, and direction finding systems.
  • Perform technical analysis associated with SIGINT/ELINT concepts, battlefield spectrum management, threat emitter libraries, and tactical EW doctrine.
  • Support integration of EW and cyber capabilities into operational kill chain architectures.
  • Prepare technical reports, briefings, test documentation, and engineering recommendations for AFRL stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting advanced R amp;D programs and technology demonstrations.
  • Participate in laboratory, field, and operational test activities supporting spectrum warfare initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education – Required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following disciplines:
      • Electrical Engineering
      • Computer Engineering
      • Aerospace Engineering
      • Systems Engineering
  • Experience:
    • 5 + years of directly related experience:
      • Practical experience with RF engineering and test equipment including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers (VNAs), oscilloscopes, SDR platforms, RF test chambers, and direction-finding systems.
      • Strong knowledge of offensive cyber operations including vulnerability research, penetration testing, embedded device exploitation, wireless protocol attacks, SDR-based attack methodologies, and drone command-and-control exploitation.
      • Strong knowledge of defensive cyber operations including detection engineering, threat analysis, intrusion detection/prevention, RF anomaly detection, EW countermeasure strategies, and secure embedded system design.
      • Experience supporting offensive EW activities including electronic attack (EA), jamming techniques, deception operations, signal denial/disruption, RF spoofing, and directed energy fundamentals.
      • Experience supporting defensive EW capabilities including electronic protection (EP), anti-jam systems, frequency hopping, spectrum resilience, and low probability of intercept/detection (LPI/LPD).
      • Familiarity with SIGINT/ELINT fundamentals, threat emitter libraries, battlefield spectrum management, tactical EW doctrine, and kill chain integration.
      • Strong analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.
      • Experience supporting Department of War or AFRL programs preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not supervise the work of others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, 80%.

TRAVEL:
Minimal travel, 5 – 10%.
