Are you looking for an exciting new career opportunity? ATC Healthcare has immediate needs for experienced RN's to fill full time positions in a jail setting, providing care and care coordination for inmates.

Jail Nurse Job Duties:
The jail medical staff will report to Jail Administration and be under the instruction and direction of the jail physician. The jail medical staff job duties include:
  • Sick call for inmates
  • Intake medical screening of inmates
  • Telephone consultation
  • Assist physician with visits and complete physical examinations and record within 10 days of booking date
  • Examinations must be signed off by physician within 14 days
  • Distribute medications at least twice daily, 365 days per year, refilling prescriptions, order new prescriptions, and ensure adequate supply of OTC medications.
  • Occasional on-call services to include prescription verifications, consults, evaluations and referrals as necessary on a 24-hour basis
  • Nurse will schedule appointments for off-site services and do follow-up with providers, including coordination of transportation
  • Secure information from inmates on medical insurance prior to making arrangements with outside providers for services or prescriptions
  • Medical staff will be responsible for tuberculosis tests on all inmates, as well as reading same tests or training staff to follow through with same
  • Follow-up on all hospitalized inmates on an as needed basis
  • Provide health assessments, in accordance with Michigan Corrections Department as established by Alpena County
  • Provide jail staff training as needed for urgent or emergent medical conditions
  • Provide monthly statistical reports to Jail Administration and the Sheriff
  • Be a first responder in case of a medical emergency in the jail
  • Documentation if an inmate’s ordered medication was not administered and the reason
  • Mental health screenings and referral
  • Provide quality care for chronic conditions such as diabetes by conducting daily blood sugar checks and routine evaluation in a chronic care clinic.

Jail Nurse(s) Job Requirements:
  • Must have current, unrestricted Nursing License in the State of Michigan
  • Must have BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Must have a minimum of one year of experience as a nurse
  • Must have 2 recent references
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Must have demonstrated leadership qualities for team building
  • Must be able to pass ALL required health and other screenings
