Job description

Summary

This position is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of prisoners in a Direct Supervision and Linear style jail setting. This position is under the general supervision of a Jail Sergeant and/or his/her designee.

Definition and Examples of Work

Complete jail operations while ensuring the safety and security of employees and inmates

  • Distribute and collect meals, medication, clothing, personal care items, commissary, cleaning supplies, clothing, bedding, and personal items to prisoners
  • Maintain jail security by completing cell checks, random prisoner counts, monitoring cell areas on surveillance equipment, cell inspections, completing lock down procedures, and using physical force, restraints, and other equipment when necessary.
  • Clean and maintain all jail areas.
  • Properly orientate new prisoners to the jail and escort authorized personnel within the facility as need.
  • Prepare prisoners for transfer and provide security escort during transfer.
  • Testify in court when required.
  • Call jail nurse or emergency medical personnel when medical emergency arises with inmate.

  • Properly access, input and retrieve information from a computer to complete required reports and update records.
