Job description

Our Data Engineer role is housed in our Digital & Data business unit and will focus on supporting our GIS and Data Engineers to help automate processes and expand our digital capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing tasks in complex projects, collaborating with project teams, and interfacing directly with clients in the engineering consulting sector. This role requires a strategic thinker who can translate business challenges into data-driven solutions, guiding projects from inception to successful completion.

A successful candidate should be able to oversee cross-functional teams from engineering and digital domains and work with our digital team ensure high quality delivery of innovative solutions. Technical proficiency in Data Science, Data Engineering, Data Management, Visualization and AI are important to this role. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and drive business value through data-driven insights is crucial for success in this position.

We value collaboration and believe that in-person interactions are crucial for both our culture and client delivery. We empower employees with our hybrid working policy, allowing them to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations enabling them to deliver their best work. This role can be located anywhere in the United States that's close to a Jacobs office.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage automation software and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, R, Spark to help streamline digital solutions

  • Prioritize data governance and data management best practices

  • Work with GIS teams and Power BI groups to help find new ways to deliver integrated solutions more effectively

  • Ability to create GIS and Power BI exhibits and support respective teams

  • Support our internal digital team in project support and solution scalability

  • Work with project managers and clients to understand needs and be able to come up with digital solutions to fill those needs

  • Works with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.

• 3+ years of professional experience in consulting, digital solutions, data engineering, data management, data analysis, GIS, engineering, and visualization

• Expertise in tools and platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Dataverse, Python, SQL, Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate), GIS, and database technology (data lakes, vector database, etc.)
