Job description

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx. Jacobi Medical Center is a 457-bed, Level I Trauma Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB) has 213 licensed beds.  To this day, Jacobi and NCB remain respected leaders in emergency medicine, trauma surgery, burn care, pediatrics, primary care, and women’s health.  The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with Albert Einstein College of Medicine to maintain its high healthcare delivery standards.

A new Residency Program is being started at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx.  This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, innovative academic leader interested in building a state-of-the-art Residency Program, in an established Department with an excellent faculty and an array of novel educational and operational divisions. Seeking an educational reformer and trailblazer capable of navigating a mature, high-performing department, and leveraging our deep clinical legacy as a springboard to launch a truly elite, top-tier residency experience. 

Opportunity Details:

  • Serve as the founding leader of a brand-new Emergency Medicine Residency Program, driving its clinical, academic, and operational development from the ground up.
  • Recruit and mentor the inaugural resident classes, building a diverse, high-performing program culture rooted in excellence and innovation.
  • Ensure full ACGME compliance while establishing a nationally recognized standard for residency education and institutional quality.
  • Lead the development of cutting-edge curriculum, evidence-based teaching initiatives, and departmental research growth.
  • Practice in a dynamic, high-acuity environment across two premier campuses: Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital.
  • Work within one of the region’s most advanced Emergency Departments, featuring a Level I Trauma Center, Stroke Center, Burn Center, and STEMI/PCI Center.
  • Receive a faculty appointment with Albert Einstein College of Medicine, connecting academic advancement with bedside clinical excellence.
  • Collaborate with nationally recognized programs in Ultrasound, Simulation, Toxicology/Addiction Care, Public Health & Advocacy, Education, and Research.
  • Join a department offering unique clinical resources, including a Regional Snake-Bite Center, multi-person Hyperbaric Treatment Facility, and established fellowships in Ultrasound, Simulation, and Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
  • Ideal candidates include experienced Program Directors, Associate/Assistant Program Directors, or academic EM leaders with residency leadership experience, scholarly achievements, national presentations/publications, and a passion for shaping the next generation of Emergency Medicine physicians.
  • Active and unrestricted NYS medical license 
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine 
  • Minimum of five years as an Attending Physician 
  • Would qualify for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor 
  • Demonstrated history of scholarly contribution 

Annual Base Salary: $352,500* (Board Certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.  

The annual total value of compensation package is estimated at $427,750** (Board Certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below: 

  • Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets. 
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):  

    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required. 
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required. 
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement. 

  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days. 

  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates. 

  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage: Equal to 2x your salary (up to a maximum of $300,000) provided at no cost to you.  

    • Additional employee-paid Voluntary Life and AD&D coverage is available for you and your family. 
  • Loan Forgiveness: Position may be eligible for loan forgiveness through certain state or federal programs. 

  • Medical Malpractice Coverage (equivalent to occurrence-based): Provided at no cost to the employee. 

  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). 

  • Pre-tax employee-paid contributions for commuting expenses. 

  • Visa sponsorship will be considered for this position.
