What is an IT startup?

An IT startup is a newly established company that focuses on developing innovative technology-based products or services. These startups typically operate in the information technology sector, working on software, hardware, or digital solutions to solve specific problems or address market needs. IT startups are known for their agility, creativity, and potential for rapid growth, often leveraging cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, or mobile applications. Many IT startups seek funding from investors to scale their business and bring their ideas to a broader market.

What are some common challenges faced when working at an IT startup, and how can new employees best adapt?

Working at an IT startup often means navigating a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment where priorities can shift quickly. New employees may encounter challenges such as wearing multiple hats, adapting to evolving processes, and managing tight deadlines. To succeed, it's important to stay flexible, communicate openly with your team, and proactively seek feedback. Embracing a growth mindset and being willing to learn new technologies or skills on the fly are valuable traits that help employees thrive in this dynamic setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT startup founder, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IT Startup Founder, you need a blend of technical expertise (such as software development or IT infrastructure), business acumen, and often a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with agile project management tools, cloud platforms, and startup-focused frameworks like Lean Startup is highly valuable. Exceptional leadership, resilience, and networking skills set successful founders apart in a competitive landscape. These competencies are crucial for driving innovation, managing rapid growth, and securing funding in a dynamic tech environment.

Sales Rep / Account Executive -- Wedding Tech Startup (Commission + Hourly)

Foreverly Weddings

Minneapolis, MN • On-site

$55K - $75K/yr

Other

PTO

Posted 4 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct outbound calls and outreach to wedding venues and vendors across MN, WI, and IL.

  • Run demos and guide owners through how Foreverly works to sign up new accounts.

  • Manage the sales pipeline in the CRM and follow up until deals are closed.

Job description

About the job

About Foreverly

Foreverly is a wedding marketplace startup built around one idea: transparent pricing. Couples browse venues and vendors, see real prices, and build their whole wedding online like a shopping cart instead of filling out contact forms and waiting for quotes. We're live in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois and going after the big wedding directories head on.

We were founded by wedding venue owners. We know exactly what venues and vendors deal with on the big platforms, so we built the alternative.

Read This Part First

We're an early-stage startup. That means:

  • There's no benefits package, no corporate ladder, no cushy office. There's actually no office at all yet.
  • The hours are longer at times. Some weeks you'll grind harder than you have at a normal job.
  • In return, you get in on the ground floor of something that could be massive. You'll work directly with the founders, your ideas will actually ship, and for the right person there's real equity potential as we grow.

If you read that and got excited, keep going. If you read that and started thinking about PTO policies, this isn't your job, and that's okay.

The Role

Full-time, remote/hybrid. You'll work from home most days, with regular in-person meetups within 30 minutes of the Twin Cities metro to plan, train, and keep the team dialed in. You need to be based in or near the Twin Cities (Within an hour).

You'll be on the front lines of growing our supply side: getting wedding venues and vendors (florists, DJs, photographers, planners, caterers) onto the platform.

Day to day:

  • Outbound calls and outreach to venues and vendors across MN, WI, and IL
  • Running demos and walking owners through how Foreverly works
  • Getting new accounts signed up, onboarded, and live
  • Managing your pipeline in our CRM and following up until deals close
  • Building the sales playbook with us as we figure out what works

Compensation

  • Hourly base plus uncapped commission on every account you activate
  • Realistic first-year earnings: $55,000-75,000. Top performers can pace well past it.
  • Equity potential for the right person who proves they can grow this with us

Who You Are

  • You've sold before and you can prove it with numbers
  • Comfortable with outbound and cold calling. Most of this job is starting conversations.
  • Self-directed. Remote means nobody's watching over your shoulder, and you don't need them to.
  • You want ownership and upside more than you want safety
  • Comfortable with the pace and messiness of an early-stage startup
  • Experience in weddings, hospitality, or events is a plus. If you've sold for The Knot, WeddingWire, or Zola, we especially want to talk to you.

How to Apply

  • Send us your resume and a short note (3-5 sentences) on why you'd be great at this.
