These systems allow IT teams to monitor client networks, servers, and endpoints remotely, automate maintenance tasks, and quickly respond to issues. RMM Engineers play a crucial role in maintaining system uptime, ensuring security compliance, and improving the efficiency of IT operations, especially for managed service providers (MSPs). Their expertise helps organizations proactively manage their IT infrastructure and reduce downtime.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an IT Rmm engineer?

To thrive as an IT RMM Engineer, you need a solid understanding of network management, system administration, and troubleshooting, usually backed by a degree in IT or related certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Microsoft certifications. Familiarity with Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) platforms such as ConnectWise, Kaseya, or SolarWinds, as well as ticketing and automation tools, is essential. Strong problem-solving ability, communication skills, and a proactive mindset are key soft skills for excelling in this role. These skills and qualities are critical for ensuring system reliability, minimizing downtime, and delivering efficient IT support to clients or internal teams.

How does an IT Rmm engineer typically collaborate with other IT staff and clients to resolve technical issues?

Job description

IT Support Engineer – Tier 2 / Systems & Network Support

Location: Albany, NY / Capital Region
Schedule: Full-Time
Pay: $25–$35/hour ($52,000–$72,800 annually)
Work Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional travel to local customer sites

TES Staffing is partnering with an established, growing technology services company in the Albany area to hire an IT Support Engineer who enjoys solving problems, working with a variety of technologies, and helping people get back to work when technology gets in the way.

This is not just a password-reset help desk role.

You'll work across multiple customer environments, troubleshooting everything from Microsoft 365 and Windows issues to servers, virtualization, networking, firewalls, backups, and wireless infrastructure.

If you're the person people turn to when the easy fixes haven't worked, and you like figuring out why something isn't working, this could be a great next step.

Why You'll Want This Job

You'll join an established Capital Region technology company with more than 30 years in the industry and a team that takes technical expertise and customer service seriously.

This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to:

  • Work with a wide variety of technology instead of supporting the same environment every day

  • Build deeper experience with servers, networking, virtualization, cloud technology, cybersecurity, and Microsoft 365

  • Troubleshoot challenging Tier 2 issues instead of spending all day on basic help desk requests

  • Learn from experienced engineers and continue developing your technical skills

  • Work for a company that invests in professional development and continuing education

  • Have real ownership of problems from troubleshooting through resolution

  • Build a career in IT with exposure to multiple industries, environments, and technologies

What You'll Do

As an IT Support Engineer, you'll be a key technical resource for customers throughout the Capital Region.

You'll handle escalated support requests, troubleshoot more complex technical issues, perform system maintenance and upgrades, and help keep customer environments running reliably.

On a typical day, you may:

  • Troubleshoot Windows desktop and server issues

  • Diagnose network, connectivity, firewall, switch, and wireless problems

  • Support Microsoft 365 and other cloud applications

  • Work within virtualized server environments

  • Troubleshoot backup and recovery issues

  • Handle escalated Tier 2 support tickets

  • Perform system maintenance, updates, patches, and upgrades

  • Use remote monitoring and management tools to identify and resolve issues

  • Document your troubleshooting and solutions clearly

  • Collaborate with other engineers when an issue requires additional expertise

  • Identify recurring problems and help eliminate them instead of simply fixing the same issue again

  • Occasionally provide onsite support at customer locations in the Albany/Capital Region area

What We're Looking For

We're less interested in whether you check every single box and more interested in whether you have a strong technical foundation, know how to troubleshoot, and genuinely enjoy helping customers.

You'll likely be successful here if you have 3+ years of hands-on IT support experience and are comfortable with several of the following:

  • Windows 10/11 and Windows Server

  • Microsoft 365

  • Active Directory

  • TCP/IP networking

  • Firewalls, switches, and wireless networking

  • VMware or other virtualization platforms

  • Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM) tools

  • Backup and disaster recovery solutions

  • Endpoint security / antivirus tools

  • Google Workspace

  • Troubleshooting desktops, laptops, printers, applications, and peripherals

MSP experience is a plus, but not required.

The Person We're Looking For

Technical skills matter, but so does how you work with people.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Can explain technical problems without drowning people in jargon

  • Takes ownership instead of passing problems along

  • Communicates with customers proactively

  • Keeps organized, detailed ticket notes

  • Knows when to keep digging and when to ask another engineer for help

  • Can manage multiple priorities without losing track of the details

  • Enjoys solving problems and learning new technology

  • Wants to be part of a team that takes pride in doing excellent work

Most importantly, you understand that great IT support is as much about the customer experience as it is about the technical fix.

What You'll Get
  • $25–$35/hour, based on experience

  • Health insurance

  • Dental insurance

  • Vision insurance

  • 401(k) / retirement plan

  • Paid time off

  • Life insurance

  • Flexible Spending Account

  • Employee Assistance Program

  • Professional development assistance

  • Tuition reimbursement

  • Employee referral program

A Few Logistics

This is a full-time position supporting customers throughout the Albany/Capital Region area. You'll occasionally travel to customer locations, so a valid driver's license and reliable ability to travel locally are required.

We're looking for someone who is already located in, or within a reasonable commuting distance of, the Albany, NY area.

Interested?

If you're an experienced IT support professional who is ready to move beyond basic help desk work and get your hands on a wider range of technology, we'd like to hear from you.

You don't need to match every technology listed above. If you have a strong troubleshooting foundation, solid Windows and networking experience, and the curiosity to keep learning, apply through TES Staffing and tell us what you've been working on.
