What is an IT quality assurance tester?

IT Quality Assurance (QA) Testers are professionals responsible for evaluating software, applications, or systems to ensure they meet specified requirements and function properly. They design and execute test cases, identify defects, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues before products are released. QA testers play a crucial role in maintaining software quality, reliability, and user satisfaction by systematically finding and documenting bugs or inconsistencies. Their work helps prevent costly errors and ensures a smooth user experience. In addition to manual testing, they may also use automated testing tools to increase efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT quality assurance tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IT Quality Assurance Tester, you need a solid understanding of software development life cycles, test case creation, and defect tracking, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Selenium, JIRA, and test automation frameworks, as well as certifications like ISTQB, are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help testers collaborate with development teams and identify issues efficiently. • Work closely with business analysts, developers, product owners, and project managers
  • Support refinement of user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Recommend improvements to QA processes, tools, and best practices
  • Maintain accurate QA documentation and knowledge sharing artifacts

Tools & Environment

  • Use Azure DevOps as the system of record for test plans, scenarios, defects, and tracking
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Support testing for integrations, APIs, and configuration‑based Salesforce functionality

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in IT / Software Quality Assurance
  • Strong experience developing and executing test plans, test cases, and test strategies
  • Hands‑on experience with Agile / Scrum testing methodologies
  • Experience with manual testing and exposure to automated testing
  • Proficient with Azure DevOps or similar ALM tools for QA tracking
  • Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing Salesforce‑based applications
  • Experience in regulated industries (government, healthcare, financial services, etc.)
