Working Hours and/or Working Conditions: The position will require the project manager to be on-site at Macomb's IT department located in Clinton Twp. MI 3 days per week, and 2 days remote. Travel to Macomb's Campuses will be required (within 10 miles) of the Clinton Twp. IT Department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have strong planning, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal.) Must be able to function as a team member and team leader for assigned projects.
Supervision: SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Chief Information Officer. Takes additional direction from the Business Information Systems, Security, Client Technologies and Infrastructure directors as approved by the CIO.SUPERVISION GIVEN: Provide direction to IT and vendor employees or consultants assigned to IT Projects.
Job Function
The IT Project Manager plans, coordinates, and manages technology projects that support the College's academic, administrative, student service, and operational goals. This role is responsible for developing project plans, coordinating internal and external resources, monitoring budgets and timelines, communicating with stakeholders, supporting change management, and ensuring project documentation and deliverables are completed in alignment with college priorities and IT standards.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide project management for assigned IT projects, including project requirements, scope, schedules, budgets, cost tracking, resource coordination, issue logs, decision logs, risk assessments, escalation tracking, status reporting, and vendor coordination.
  • Manage and coordinate IT technical projects, including but not limited to system implementations, application upgrades, user acceptance testing, infrastructure projects, cybersecurity initiatives, SaaS/cloud migrations, integrations, reporting projects, and business process improvement efforts.
  • Support enterprise system modernization projects by coordinating timelines, vendor deliverables, internal readiness activities, testing, training, documentation, communication, and go-live planning across multiple departments.
  • Coordinate IT staff, end users, consultants, vendors, and other internal or external resources to ensure project activities, deliverables, timelines, and responsibilities remain aligned with approved project plans.
  • Facilitate project meetings, status meetings, planning sessions, vendor meetings, stakeholder discussions, and project closeout meetings. Prepare agendas, document meeting minutes, capture action items, track decisions, identify follow-up responsibilities, and distribute timely communications to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Monitor assigned project activities and provide written and verbal guidance, as needed, to IT staff, end users, consultants, and vendors to support contract compliance, timely completion of project deliverables, and adherence to approved project schedules.
  • Support the development, use, and continuous improvement of standard project management templates, processes, procedures, documentation standards, reporting formats, and project closeout materials.
  • Assist IT department management in the coordination of the IT Project Management Office, including analyzing departmental action plans, project schedules, resource needs, project priorities, risks, and dependencies to ensure alignment with CIO, IT leadership, departmental, and college objectives.
  • Present project status updates at IT Leadership meetings, including project progress, risks, resource constraints, late tasks, unresolved issues, key decisions needed, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Serve as a liaison between IT and college departments for technology-related projects, including new system implementations, system upgrades, application changes, and business process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of vendor RFPs, review and analysis of vendor responses, project-related procurement activities, and tracking of vendor deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain graphical process flows, decision trees, project schedules, and related planning materials using tools such as Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Planner, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, and other approved project management tools.
  • Develop and support change management strategies for assigned projects, including stakeholder communication, training coordination, documentation, adoption planning, readiness assessment, post-implementation support, and mitigation of resistance to change.
  • Handle confidential information appropriately, including student, employee, financial, contractual, operational, security, and technology-related information.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Education
Bachelor's degree in a related field and six years of progressively responsible project management experience.
Qualifications
Experience managing technical IT projects is specifically required, including an elevated fluency in the terms, resources and technologies required for the success of these projects. Project management experience in Higher Education is preferred. Fluency in Microsoft 365 tools including Planner/Project, Teams, Word and Excel required. Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) desirable. Competency in Microsoft Visio and SharePoint a plus.
