Job description

JARS CANNABIS
IT Manager
www.shopjars.com
Department: Data and Systems
Reports To: Director of Data and Systems
Location: Troy, Michigan (Corporate)
Ready to elevate your career path to a new all-time high?
JARS Cannabis is more than just your average cannabis brand and retailer. We are a culturally inspired organization on a mission to rewrite the existing narratives that surround cannabis, one community at a time. We seek to empower the future leaders of our industry while creating an inclusive workplace environment that is fueled by celebrating the intersection of cannabis with creativity, community, and collaboration.
Implementing a progressive approach, we aim to provide only the highest quality of product and service to our customers and the communities that we are fortunate to inhabit. Striving to set a new standard of professional excellence in cannabis retail, our highly motivated team is comprised of knowledgeable experts who are committed to making the integration of cannabis into any lifestyle both easy and accessible.
Does this spark your interest? If so, we'd love to hear from you!
Position Summary
The IT Manager runs day-to-day IT for JARS across the corporate office and our retail locations. The role is mostly project work, not tickets. Our IT Technician handles tier-1 support well on her own and rarely needs escalation, so the IT Manager spends most of their time on infrastructure projects, system standardization, and vendor management. The IT Manager supervises the IT Technician and is the operational owner of every IT system the company runs.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Administration
  • Day-to-day administration of our Microsoft 365 and Entra ID tenant, including identity, groups, licensing, conditional access, and security policy
  • Manage the user, device, and access lifecycle across corporate and all retail locations
  • Maintain SSO and SCIM integrations between Entra and our business applications, and add new ones as we onboard new systems
  • Work with the Data and Systems team on identity-driven automation and provisioning

Network and Infrastructure
  • Manage and monitor the company network across all sites (our environment is primarily Ubiquiti for LAN, wireless, and firewalls)
  • Audit network health and security on a regular cadence and remediate findings
  • Source and contract internet service for new retail locations and corporate sites
  • Manage existing ISP contracts, renewals, and any service escalations

Telephony and Communications
  • Administer the voice platform used in stores, covering provisioning, call routing, hardware, and the vendor relationship
  • Manage the corporate cell phone fleet, including the carrier relationship, lines, devices, MDM enrollment, and cost control

Hardware and Procurement
  • Purchase computers, peripherals, networking gear, and IT-related equipment for corporate and retail locations
  • Set hardware standards, maintain an asset inventory, and plan refresh cycles
  • Negotiate with vendors and resellers, and track IT spend against budget

People and Process
  • Supervise the IT Technician, including priorities, coverage, performance, and professional development
  • Provide tier-2 and tier-3 escalation support and occasional after-hours coverage; day-to-day tickets remain with the IT Technician
  • Write and maintain SOPs for IT, covering onboarding and offboarding, network changes, incident response, hardware deployment, and vendor management
  • Identify manual work, standardize it, document it, and automate it where appropriate

What This Role Is Not
This is not a help-desk role. Ticket volume is low and our IT Technician handles it well on their own with very little escalation. Tickets are still a high priority, but they should not be the bulk of the work. The IT Manager spends most of their time on systems ownership, infrastructure projects, vendor management, and building the operational processes the IT department runs on.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be willing to submit to a background check
  • Hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID in a production environment
  • Experience administering business networks, including switching, routing, wireless, and firewalls
  • Comfortable managing vendors, contracts, renewals, and procurement
  • Experience writing technical SOPs and operational documentation
  • Strong project management skills - able to scope, schedule, and deliver multi-site IT projects without daily oversight
  • Has supervised or mentored at least one direct report
  • Comfortable supporting distributed retail locations remotely with occasional site visits

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with Ubiquiti UniFi at multi-site scale
  • Working knowledge of SSO and SCIM provisioning between Entra and SaaS applications
  • Experience with a multi-site voice or contact-center platform such as Genesys, Zoom Phone, or RingCentral
  • Background in multi-site retail, hospitality, or a regulated industry
  • Familiarity with Intune or another MDM platform
  • Cannabis industry experience (nice to have, not required)

Work Atmosphere / Physical Demands
  • Primarily office-based at JARS corporate headquarters in Troy, Michigan
  • Occasional site visits to retail locations across Michigan
  • Requires prolonged use of a computer and standard office equipment
  • Occasional after-hours coverage for escalations or critical infrastructure work
  • Will require working varied hours as business needs and project timelines dictate
