Job Overview

Title: Senior IT Project Manager
Sector: Information Technology / Utilities
Seniority: Senior Level
Location: Oakland, CA – Local Candidates Only
Job Type: Hybrid / Primarily Remote with Occasional Office Attendance
Contract Length: 1 Year +
Compensation:  $62.87 - $83.33/hour

Role Overview

Pivot Point Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to lead complex, high-visibility Meter-to-Cash technology initiatives within a large utility environment. This position will have end-to-end responsibility for multi-year projects involving significant budgets, organizational dependencies, regulatory considerations, and coordination across business, technology, engineering, vendors, and senior leadership.

The ideal candidate is an established senior Project Manager who has successfully delivered large enterprise IT initiatives and can independently manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, governance, stakeholder alignment, and executive communication. Experience leading $15M–$20M technology projects and initiatives tied to regulatory commitments is highly desirable.

Your Day-to-Day Activities
  • Provide end-to-end leadership for complex, multi-year Meter-to-Cash IT projects.

  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for assigned projects from initiation through implementation and closeout.

  • Define project objectives, scope, delivery strategies, milestones, dependencies, and success criteria.

  • Evaluate project feasibility and ensure objectives, schedules, budgets, and delivery expectations are achievable.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, governance structures, risk management strategies, and executive reporting.

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, schedules, scope, resources, risks, issues, dependencies, and change.

  • Coordinate across IT, business, engineering, operations, vendors, consultants, and other supporting organizations.

  • Partner with technical and engineering teams on complex alternatives, risk analyses, studies, and solution recommendations.

  • Identify significant project risks early and drive mitigation and contingency planning.

  • Manage conflicts and competing priorities across project teams and stakeholder organizations.

  • Support projects involving regulatory commitments, compliance requirements, or other high-visibility business obligations.

  • Prepare and deliver project updates, recommendations, and decision materials to senior executives and leadership.

  • Manage external partners and formal project relationships where applicable.

  • Establish and promote project management best practices across teams and programs.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Project Managers.

  • Maintain project documentation and governance deliverables in accordance with enterprise PMO standards.

The Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in project management, project controls, engineering, construction, or closely related project delivery disciplines.

  • PMP certification in active standing.

  • Significant experience independently managing complex enterprise IT projects.

  • Experience leading projects across the full lifecycle from planning and initiation through implementation and closeout.

  • Demonstrated responsibility for project scope, schedule, budget, risk, issues, dependencies, resources, and stakeholder management.

  • Experience coordinating across multiple business and technical organizations.

  • Strong executive communication skills with experience presenting project status, risks, recommendations, and decisions to senior leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and drive decisions across complex project teams.

  • Strong risk management and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently with limited direction in a high-visibility environment.

  • Must be local and available to commute to the office occasionally based on project and team needs.

You'll Stand Out If You Have
  • Direct experience leading Meter-to-Cash technology initiatives within an electric or gas utility.

  • Experience with utility metering, billing, customer information, revenue, or related enterprise systems.

  • Experience managing individual IT projects or programs valued at approximately $15M–$20M.

  • Experience delivering technology initiatives tied to regulatory commitments or compliance deadlines.

  • Experience working within a mature enterprise IT PMO environment.

  • Experience managing multi-year initiatives involving multiple vendors, business units, and technology teams.

  • Experience presenting directly to executive or officer-level leadership.

  • Previous experience mentoring or providing delivery guidance to other Project Managers.
