Job description

IT Manager, Holdings

Location: New York City

Reports to: Head of IT & Cybersecurity

About the Opportunity

Bedrock Talent is partnering with a leading investment firm to hire an IT Manager for one of its engineering-focused operating entities.

The role sits at the intersection of hands-on IT operations and practical security. It is neither a traditional help desk position nor a policy-only security role. The right person will be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment, managing external partners, establishing operational discipline, and taking ownership of both immediate needs and longer-term improvements.

Key ResponsibilitiesIT Operations and Service Delivery
  • Serve as the internal owner of day-to-day IT operations, ensuring employees receive reliable support, priorities are clear, and issues are resolved with strong follow-through.

  • Establish and maintain the processes, standards, operating rhythms, and escalation paths needed to create a consistent and scalable IT function.

  • Build internal structure and accountability so that IT outcomes are actively owned rather than outsourced by default.

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, documentation, and the overall employee technology experience.

MSP and Vendor Management
  • Own the relationship with the organization’s managed service provider, including prioritization, escalation, accountability, and performance management.

  • Establish a clear operating cadence with the MSP and ensure external support remains aligned with the organization’s needs, pace, and standards.

  • Improve vendor oversight so that service gaps are identified and addressed quickly.

  • Ensure vendors deliver measurable outcomes and maintain clear ownership across ongoing projects and operational responsibilities.

Security, Controls, and Governance
  • Strengthen the organization’s security posture through practical, well-implemented improvements rather than policy alone.

  • Identify the most significant IT and security risks within the current environment and lead disciplined remediation efforts.

  • Improve governance, controls, vendor oversight, documentation, and evidence readiness.

  • Help establish a more mature operating model capable of supporting continued growth and potential future regulatory requirements.

  • Balance thoughtful risk management with the speed and flexibility required by a growing organization.

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner closely with the Head of IT & Cybersecurity, the broader operating team, and key cross-functional stakeholders to ensure IT supports how the organization works.

  • Build credibility with an engineering-heavy user base and make sound technical and operational tradeoffs without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.

  • Communicate clearly about risk, priorities, decisions, and ownership in a way that builds trust and accountability.

  • Translate business needs into practical IT solutions and ensure stakeholders understand the reasoning behind key decisions.

What We’re Looking For
  • A hands-on IT operator with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.

  • Experience managing an MSP or other external IT service providers.

  • A practical, security-minded approach and the ability to implement appropriate controls without unnecessarily slowing the organization down.

  • The technical credibility to work effectively with engineers and other highly technical stakeholders.

  • Experience building or improving foundational IT operations within a growing or evolving organization.

  • Strong judgment when assessing risk, prioritizing work, and navigating competing needs.

  • Clear, thoughtful communication skills and the ability to build productive cross-functional relationships.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and enthusiasm for defining the function while remaining actively involved in the work.
