Job description

IT Operations Lead (On-Site | TS/SCI Eligible | Federal Program)

Location: Washington, DC (On-Site)
Clearance: Active Top Secret required (SCI eligibility required)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on IT Operations Lead to support a mission-critical, high-side federal environment. While aligned to a Deputy Program Manager function, this role serves as the primary on-site leader responsible for day-to-day operations, team performance, and direct engagement with government stakeholders.

The Program Manager operates in a more remote/oversight capacity, making this role the central operational authority on-site. The selected candidate will be expected to lead from the front, take ownership of operations, and ensure consistent execution across all support functions.

This is not a passive or secondary role—this position requires someone who is comfortable in the weeds, managing teams, enforcing accountability, and acting as the main interface between employees, the government, and company leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead day-to-day operations across a ~30-person IT support team (Service Desk, Systems Administration, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, and SharePoint)
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for government leadership and stakeholders
  • Ensure 24/7/365 operational support, system stability, and mission continuity
  • Monitor and enforce SLA/KPI performance, identifying and correcting gaps proactively
  • Oversee Tier 1–3 support operations, ensuring effective escalation, communication, and resolution
  • Drive accountability across team leads and technical staff
  • Establish and maintain operational standards, SOPs, and structured workflows
  • Coordinate ongoing modernization efforts, including cloud adoption and SharePoint migration
  • Provide consistent status reporting, metrics, and performance updates to leadership
  • Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies before impacting mission delivery

What This Role Requires

  • Strong, visible on-site leadership presence
  • Ability to take ownership of operations immediately
  • Confidence to engage directly with government leadership
  • Experience managing team performance and enforcing accountability
  • Comfort operating in a high-tempo, high-visibility environment
  • Willingness to be hands-on and engaged in daily execution—not just oversight

Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Proven experience as an IT Operations Lead, Deputy PM, Program Manager, or equivalent leadership role in a federal environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing day-to-day IT operations (not just project management)
  • Experience leading multi-functional technical teams (service desk, infrastructure, network, cyber, etc.)
  • Strong background in SLA-driven service delivery environments
  • Experience working directly with government stakeholders (COR, PMO, etc.)
  • Ability to manage performance, resolve issues quickly, and drive accountability
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical teams and senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in classified (SCIF / high-side) environments
  • Familiarity with ITIL or service management frameworks
  • Experience supporting cloud migrations and/or SharePoint environments
  • PMP or equivalent certification

What Success Looks Like

  • Operations are stable with consistent SLA performance
  • Team is aligned, accountable, and responsive
  • Government stakeholders have clear visibility and confidence in execution
  • Issues are identified and resolved before escalation
  • Processes are structured, repeatable, and continuously improving

Important Note

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys leading from the front, staying engaged in daily operations, and driving team performance. Candidates seeking a purely strategic or oversight role will not be a fit for this position.
