Job description

Kickstart your career in Information Technology with a hands-on summer internship at JL Clark, a leading manufacturer with a strong reputation for innovation, quality, and growth. This June–August internship offers real-world experience supporting IT operations in a dynamic manufacturing environment, not software development, but the critical technology that keeps our business running. High-performing interns may have the opportunity to be considered for future full-time roles.

job Summary:

Under the direction of the IT Systems & Security Manager, the IT Intern will play a hands-on role in supporting day-to-day IT operations and gain exposure to a wide range of technologies in a manufacturing environment. This internship is designed for a motivated individual with a foundational technical background who is eager to learn, take initiative, and develop their skills in real-world scenarios.

The intern will assist with Help Desk support, IT asset management, printer identification, and on-site technical tasks across the Rockford Metal and Plastics plants. This includes working directly with end users to troubleshoot issues, supporting system and network operations, and contributing to ongoing IT and cybersecurity initiatives. The role offers the opportunity to engage with both office and production environments, providing a well-rounded understanding of how IT supports business operations.

This position is ideal for someone who is “tech-curious” and adaptable—someone who may not have deep experience in every area but demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and a proactive mindset. The intern will collaborate closely with the IT team, receiving mentorship and practical experience in infrastructure, security, and systems support, while also taking ownership of assigned tasks and projects.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  1. Provide first-level technical support for employees (password resets, login issues, and basic hardware/software troubleshooting)
  2. Assist with setup, configuration, and deployment of laptops, desktops, printers, and mobile devices
  3. Support user account management across systems such as Active Directory, email platforms, and internal applications
  4. Help maintain and update the IT asset inventory (track equipment, tag devices, document assignments)
  5. Assist with network and system monitoring (review alerts, escalate issues, and support uptime of production systems)
  6. Support cybersecurity initiatives, including:
    1. Monitoring for suspicious activity
    2. Assisting with phishing awareness and training efforts
    3. Ensuring endpoint protection software is up to date
    4. Participate in system updates, patches, and maintenance activities
    5. Help document IT processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides
    6. Provide support to manufacturing operations by:
    7. a) Assisting with shop-floor systems (e.g., scanners, label printers, production PCs)
    8. b) Troubleshooting connectivity or system issues affecting production
    9. c) Assisting with data backups and recovery processes under supervision
    10. d) Supporting IT projects such as system upgrades, new software implementations, or equipment rollouts s
  7. Assist with on-site: Ethernet cabling, network cabinet organization, A/V presentation support, system building, and other IT infrastructure updates

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  1. Pursuing a degree in Information Technology.
  2. Strong computer, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  3. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  4. Dependability and the ability to multitask.
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and general computer applications.
  6. Basic understanding of network fundamentals, Active Directory, and messaging technologies.

Reporting Relationships:

  • This position is on-site and reports directly to the IT Systems & Security Manager

This is a paid internship ($20 per hour), starting June 1, 2026, and ending August 14, 2026.
