Job description

The IT Business Analyst bridges the gap between business needs and technical solutions within the Application Development organization. This role partners closely with the IT Portfolio Manager, Business Relationship Managers (BRMs), Product/Project Managers, and Software Developers to translate business strategy into well-defined, data-informed solutions — from discovery through delivery and adoption. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering and Analysis

  • Collaborate with BRMs and product owners to gather, document, and prioritize business requirements
  • Conduct data-informed analysis of business processes to identify opportunities for automation and improvement
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria for the development team
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews) to keep requirements aligned with delivery

Solution Design and Implementation

  • Work with developers to design IT solutions that meet business needs
  • Experience documenting the as-is and to-be as well as performing GAP analysis
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and align with industry best practices
  • Assist in the implementation of new systems and enhancements to existing systems
  • Evaluate opportunities for process automation and AI-assisted tooling to reduce manual effort and improve data quality

Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the IT team
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between BRMs, developers and other stakeholders
  • Provide regular updates on project status and address any concerns or issues

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Develop and manage the execution of test plans to ensure solutions meet business requirements
  • Identify and document defects, and work with developers to resolve them
  • Ensure the quality and functionality of delivered solutions

Documentation and Training

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for IT projects and systems
  • Provide training and support to end-users and/or SMEs to ensure successful adoption of new solutions
  • Develop user manuals, guides, and other training materials

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in technology
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend innovative solutions
  • Participate in post-implementation reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement

  • Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum ceremonies and tools (e.g., Jira, sprint planning, backlog grooming)
  • Familiarity with requirements for publicly traded companies, including SOX, ADA, ISO, PCI
  • Experience in an enterprise with multiple geographic locations and interacting in a corporate IT role
  • Experience with data visualization/BI tools (e.g., Power BI) and low-code/no-code platforms

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in information technology
  • Minimum of 3 years in an IT Business Analyst role. 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
