About Duke Primary Care

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Primary Care, which offers family, adolescent, and internal medicine services as well as urgent, general pediatric, and virtual care at nearly 50 clinic locations across central North Carolina.

Overview 

The Ambulatory Operations Analyst (Amb Ops Analyst) will support performance management and data analysis services for Ambulatory Services, inclusive of Duke Primary Care and Urgent Care, Duke University Hospital Based Clinics, Duke Health Integrated Practice, and associated School of Medicine departments. The role involves regular interaction with operational and departmental leadership, including COOs, VPs, and Clinical Department Chairs to support statistical analysis, data analytics, and business intelligence to inform decision making, planning, and continuous improvement across the organization. The Amb Ops Analyst will play an active role in enhancing clinical and operational outcomes through data-driven insights. 

Responsibilities and Expectations 

General Responsibilities 

  • Individual contributor representing a common career progression path from an Analyst IT position. 

  • Works under moderate supervision, with some autonomy in project execution; having the ability to work and perform job functions independently >75% of the time 

  • Mentor new team members and/or junior team members 

Operational Analytics Support 

  • Support senior operational leadership with focused analyses to manage the performance of key strategic priorities and business processes 

  • Conduct in-dept analyses of key operational metrics related to people, access/growth, and quality/safety 

  • Collaborate with senior operational leadership to understand and address critical operational challengesvia data driven insights 

Decision Support and Performance Reporting  

  • Initiate and develop clinical analyses to enhance management and care experience 

  • Translate complex data insights into actionable strategies and improvement plans 

  • Provide decision support for clinical and operational improvement efforts 

  • Offer analytical support to facilitate performance improvement efforts 

Data Analysis and Storytelling 

  • Serve as primary subject matter expert for one to two domains (process, customer, subject area, analytic methods) 

  • Utilizes established methodologies and tools proficiently, with room for growth in advanced techniques 

  • Conduct comprehensive data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and insight 

  • Translate data findings into actionable recommendations and narratives   

  • Create compelling visualizations and dashboards using tools like Tableau or Power BI 

Dashboard, Scorecard, and Report Development  

  • Design and implement dashboards for Health System leadership 

  • Extract and analyze data using SQL, Vizient, Business Objects, Excel, Tableau, and JMP 

  • Identify areas for improvement in clinical quality, patient experience, and cost of care 

Communication and Problem Solving 

  • Effectively communicate complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders 

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and work with leadership to identify solutions 

  • Demonstrate a proven ability to accurately and independently identify technical solutions that best meet customer needs 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to align analytics with organizational goals 

  • Develop presentations to communicate insights effectively to leadership teams 

  • Engage with internal and external customers to understand their data needs, building a backlog of known and/or anticipated needs 

  • Demonstrates high attention to detail, delivering work product free from defect and minimal re-work 

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through effective communication and service delivery 

  • Ensure data privacy and security in all interactions and analyses  

Qualifications 

  • Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in a related field, Degree in Information Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Public Health, Statistics/Biostatistics, or a health-related discipline preferred.  

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in data analysis and related fields. Recent and prior healthcare experience or analytical experience as post-doctoral or research associate acceptable or preferred. 

  • Skills/Abilities:  

  • Proficiency in moderate to complex SQL queries 

  • Proficiency using statistical and business analysis software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, JMP) 

  • Strong analytical and communication skills 

  • Proficiency in database analysis and visualization tools (SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Fabric) 

  • Ability to effectively visualize and communicate data 

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills 

  • Conflict resolution experience 

  • Adaptability to handle multiple assignments and shifting priorities
