ย Job Title: ISS Instructor / Behavior Interventionist & Content Recovery Specialist

ย FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Classified)

ย GENERAL SUMMARY

ย Under limited supervision, the ISS Instructor / Behavior Interventionist & Content Recovery Specialist provides instructional and behavioral support to students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) or content recovery. The position promotes positive behavior, assists students in meeting academic goals through the Edgenuity learning platform, and provides mentoring to support social-emotional growth and school engagement. The ISS Instructor implements intervention strategies that encourage appropriate behavior, accountability, and academic progress while maintaining a structured, supportive environment. Reports to the Principal or designee.ย 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

ย  Behavior Intervention & Supportย 

ย  ย  ย o Implements behavior intervention plans and restorative strategies aligned with the school's behavior plans.ย 

ย  ย  o Provides individual and group mentoring to help students build coping skills, conflict-resolution abilities, and decision-making capacity.

ย  ย  o Monitors and documents student behavior, communicating trends to counselors, administrators, and parents.

ย  ย o Collaborates with school counselors, administrators, and teachers to identify underlying causes of behavior and design proactive supports.ย 

Instructional Support & Content Recoveryย 

ย  ย o Facilitates instruction and monitors progress for students completing assignments through Edgenuity or other virtual learning platforms.

ย  ย o Provides academic assistance and ensures students remain on track toward credit recovery and course completion.

ย  ย o Communicates with classroom teachers to coordinate assignments, grades, and student progress.

ย  ย o Maintains accurate student records and ensures accountability for coursework and behavior expectations.

ย  Student Mentorship & Engagementย 

ย  ย o Serves as a mentor and role model for students requiring additional social emotional support.

ย  ย  o Conducts regular check-ins to encourage goal setting, reflection, and personal growth.ย 

ย  ย o Helps transition students successfully back into the general education setting following ISS placement or content recovery completion.ย 

Administrative & Safety Responsibilities

ย  ย  o Maintains a structured, safe, and respectful learning environment within the ISS room.

ย  ย  o Monitors attendance, maintains daily logs, and provides reports to administration as required.

ย  ย  o Participates in professional development and contributes to school-wide behavior and intervention initiatives.ย 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

ย Education and Experience:ย 

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred.ย 

Experience working with high-school-aged students in behavioral or alternative settings strongly preferred.ย 

Knowledge:ย 

Understanding of behavior intervention strategies, classroom management, and restorative practices.ย 

Familiarity with the Edgenuity platform or similar online instructional tools.ย 

Knowledge of adolescent development and social-emotional learning principles.

ย Skills/Effort:ย 

Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills.

ย  Ability to mentor students and build positive relationships.

ย  Excellent organizational and documentation skills.ย 

Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community partners.ย 

Working Conditions:ย 

School environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions.

ย  Physical demands restricted to general classroom activities.

ย  Occasional lifting of materials up to ten pounds and regular student supervision required.
