In this role, you will leverage the nursing process to address both acute and long-term care needs of patients, their families, and the overall program environment, adhering to the standards set by our organization, department, and hospital. This position focuses on providing care to children and adolescents.

• Deliver direct nursing care by assessing both immediate and long-term needs of patients.
• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments of patients' acute nursing requirements as per admission protocols, ensuring documentation is completed in the required format.
• Complete the nursing assessment form within 8 hours of patient admission and communicate any significant changes to the nurse in charge and relevant healthcare providers during team meetings.
• Plan treatment interventions collaboratively with patients, families, and the healthcare team, initiating the patient care plan upon admission and finalizing it within 8 hours.
• Ensure patient and staff safety in accordance with established hospital procedures.
• Regularly update the patient care plan to reflect the patient's status, including:
• Setting treatment goals for patients and families.
• Identifying nursing interventions based on these goals.
• Recognizing patient and family strengths.
• Determining inpatient and aftercare needs.
• Establishing measurable short- and long-term goals with timelines.
• Implement nursing care tailored to individual patient needs.
• Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and the treatment environment, documented through ongoing clinical supervision.
• Act as an advocate for patients by upholding their rights and adhering to child mental health laws.
• Continuously develop and maintain relevant technical and psychiatric skills.
• Provide patient education regarding procedures prior to implementation.
• Administer and document prescribed medications, assessing their effectiveness and any side effects.
• Accurately transcribe and implement physician orders following medical protocols.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by yourself and other healthcare team members, modifying interventions as necessary.
• Engage in quality assurance data collection and contribute to the nursing quality assurance program.
• Communicate patient status effectively using behaviorally oriented procedures.
• Question any medical orders that conflict with ethical standards or patient care protocols.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the therapeutic environment.
• Manage the milieu throughout each shift by addressing the immediate needs of the patient group, including safety and interactions.
• Respond promptly to requests for assistance beyond the unit as directed.
• Provide leadership during acute or emergency situations and participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
• Facilitate therapeutic milieu groups and encourage individual patient participation.
• Document significant changes in patient or milieu status to the nurse in charge.
• Supervise Milieu Therapists and support staff in accordance with their scope of practice.
• Prioritize interventions in rapidly changing situations to optimize patient welfare.
• Identify and address the educational needs of patients, families, and healthcare providers.
• Assist in the orientation of new employees and students, providing on-the-spot instruction as needed.
• Commit to ongoing professional development and competency through various activities.
• Manage time effectively, prioritizing urgent issues while ensuring completion of assigned tasks.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records, sharing them with relevant parties.
• Adhere to established job schedules and procedures for coverage during absences.
• Stay informed about changes in the organization by participating in staff meetings and reviewing new policies.
• Attend six program meetings annually as assigned.
• Maintain current certifications in crisis management and CPR.
• Participate in assigned staff development activities and monthly presentations.

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a valid Registered Nurse license in Rhode Island.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
• Preferred experience of at least one year in psychiatric or pediatric nursing.

This position is based in a clinical setting focused on psychology, requiring significant standing, walking, and occasional lifting of patients. A strong background in working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders, is essential.

No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position.

The pay range for this role is $35.70 - $71.40.

Variable schedule: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM or 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM, including every other weekend and holiday.

Daily hours: 8 hours.
