ISLAMIC STUDIES TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Islamic Studies Teacher
Reports to: Head of Islamic Studies Dept
Position Type: Full-Time
Contract Term: 10 Months
Location: Islamic School of Irving
Primary Purpose:
Islamic Studies Teacher provides instruction to students at the grade levels, fostering an educational atmosphere where students can fulfill their potential as knowledgeable and productive Muslims. The teacher will implement engaging learning activities in Islamic studies, with an emphasis on Islamic character development, while also fulfilling general teaching responsibilities in alignment with school policies and educational standards.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Islamic Studies, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Preferable valid Texas teaching certificate from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience in Islamic Studies Teacher or general education.
  • Candidates with degrees from accredited U.S. colleges/universities preferred.
  • Willingness to uphold and model Islamic values and dress code.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of Quranic studies, including Tajweed and memorization techniques.
  • Ability to instruct students effectively and manage classroom behavior.
  • Knowledge of curriculum planning and instructional strategies.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, including MS Office and internet-based educational tools.
  • Fluent in Arabic (Fussha) is a plus.
  • Has excellent knowledge of Islamic Subjects and believes and acts according to the Islamic values taught to the students.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies:
  1. Develop and implement engaging Islamic Studies lessons.
  2. Plan lessons in coordination with other instructional staff to integrate Islamic values into the curriculum.
  3. Use data analysis from standardized assessments to inform instruction.
  4. Select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with different learning styles.
  5. Cooperate with staff to plan and implement effective instructional goals and objectives.
  6. Incorporate technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
Student Growth and Development:
  1. Assist students in developing effective study habits and a love for Islam.
  2. Monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  3. Organize and oversee Quran memorization programs, competitions, and Islamic events.
  4. Serve as a positive role model, guiding students toward strong moral and ethical development.
Classroom Management and Organization:
  1. Establish a structured and nurturing learning environment.
  2. Implement school policies regarding student behavior and discipline.
  3. Ensure student safety while fostering a respectful and caring classroom atmosphere.
  4. Organize classroom decorations and layout to enhance Islamic learning.
  5. Lead and organize daily prayers (Salat) within the school facility.
Communication:
  1. Maintain open communication with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress.
  2. Provide regular updates through emails, meetings, and conferences.
  3. Model professional and respectful communication in all interactions.
Professional Growth and Development:
  1. Stay updated on best practices in Islamic studies instruction and general teaching methodologies.
  2. Participate in professional development opportunities.
  3. Maintain compliance with school policies and state educational standards.
  4. Attend faculty meetings and actively contribute to school committees.
Additional Duties:
  1. Assume responsibility for and demonstrate gains in student performance.
  2. Complete grading, lesson planning, report cards, and parent conferences in a timely manner.
  3. Support students with additional strategies and resources to enhance learning.
  4. Contribute to the organization of extracurricular Islamic activities and school events.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
Working Conditions:
  1. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and school policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
