Job description

JOB DEFINITION
To perform a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions related to but not limited to leading crews for mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, landscape install, and snow removal (in snow markets).

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES
The essential general duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

General:
Be able to perform all responsibilities required of a crew member plus those listed below.

Employees:
Assist in the performance of various landscaping functions in a leadership capacity
Encourage advancement of crew members after proper training has occurred.
Plan, organize and manage work for crew members on job
Properly discipline and reward crewmembers
Develop and maintain motivated and effective crews
Complete daily paperwork as required by each job
Demonstrating role model behaviors on ethics and integrity as well as positively promoting Mainscape's Standard of Excellence.
Organize, supervise, lead, and train employees to complete assigned projects within established guidelines and timeframe
Manage time on Mainscape-issued phone using payroll application

Equipment:
Ensure all preventive maintenance for all assigned equipment
Supervise truck/trailer setup daily and manage equipment and supplies for landscape maintenance projects
Oversee all equipment has proper safety devices installed, operational and not modified. Ensure all equipment is used per manufacturer specifications
Maintain equipment in good operating condition
Operate light/heavy equipment effectively and according to all regulation
Report any problems with job site or equipment immediately
Complete 360 inspection and truck walk around

Safety:
Ensure proper task-specific PPE is being properly utilized and maintained at all times by crew members.
Follow all company policies & procedures, including safety guidelines/standards.
Ensure a safe environment for other workers and vendors, clients and for all employees.
Assist in completing accident reports when incidents occur

CSRs:
Interface with client when needed; Establish relationship with customers.
Quality control
Demonstrate ability to recognize and report irrigation deficiencies
Communicate with Operations Manager regarding status of assigned job sites.

Training:
Identify 50 most frequently used plants by common names and demonstrate knowledge of the cultural requirements of those plants.
Participate in training program for basic pest control procedures.

Fulfill all regular and advanced installation/construction duties including project layout and complete required paperwork in a timely manner.

Annual Flowers:
Identification of plants
Watering and fertilization of plants
Checking plants for insects/diseases
Loading and fill procedures
Installation

Fertilization (in applicable markets):
Demonstrate knowledge of the proper procedure for emergency spill cleanup.
Demonstrate knowledge of the basic elements of fertilizers.
Able to train field staff in the application of chemicals.
Irrigation (in applicable markets):
Detects and makes necessary repairs to the irrigation system.
Accurately read various gauges related to the irrigation system.
Manage assigned projects practicing effective and efficient water management.
Interpret job specifications and blueprints.
Install sprinkler systems.
Provide estimates and maintain positive client relations.
Operate pumps, suction and other equipment
Manage assigned projects practicing effective water management techniques.
Recognize drainage deficiencies and problem soils.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in irrigation
Irrigation certification recommended
Knowledge of blueprints

Cleaning
Thorough knowledge of proper PPE
Ability to safely use cleaning supplies and solvents
Ability to work in residential and commercial areas

Snow Removal (in applicable markets)
Ability to safely use snow removal equipment, including plow truck, skid steer, loader, backhoe, etc.
Knowledge of safe driving techniques in snow and ice conditions
Knowledge of appropriate clothing for the weather conditions that he/she will be exposed to for long periods of time
Ability to shovel snow, lifting 25 lbs.

Age Requirements:
Employee must be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws


Experience:
Previous experience as Crew Member.
Six (6) to twelve (12) months of previous commercial experience as a crew leader, preferred but not required.
Has satisfactorily completed the prescribed "Crew Member" training guide and can perform those specified essential duties

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations:
Maintain valid driver's license and insurability based on company insurance requirements
Pesticide License, preferred - (Fertilization, in applicable markets)

Language Skills:
Ability to communicate w/ lead people and crew members regarding progress of tasks and assignments
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
o Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body in order to be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods of time.
o Be able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance;
o Be able to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
o Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
o Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
o Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
o Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:
Weekend or overtime hours as necessary.
Odd hours are a necessity during inclement weather seasons, if applicable.
Combination of office, shop, and field time, where this position is exposed to all of the elements. This includes all four weather seasons and all times of the day and night.
The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment will vary depending on the assigned jobs, however, it is usually high and requires ear protection while operating equipment.

EVALUATION
Before an employee can advance to an Operations Field Manager, they must have their Supervisor provide written verification of having completed the following:
Employee may not have missed any days of work, unexcused by supervisor, within the previous 6 months.
Employee has arrived before or at the time set by their Supervisor every day within previous 6 months.
Employee has arrived to work in clothes fitting the Mainscape dress code policy every day within the previous 6 months.
Employee must have completed training for all applicable service categories (See Crew Leader Training Guide)
Employee has demonstrated the ability to perform all essential job responsibilities and duties listed above.
Employee must have the recommendation of their Supervisor to advance to the new position.
