Job description

Position Summary
The Inpatient Unit (IPU) Social Services Lead is a key member of the IPU Leadership
Team, responsible for guiding trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care. This role
emphasizes leadership in clinical programming, including the design and facilitation
of daily psychosocial groups. The Social Services Lead will also develop and deliver
training programs for both clients and staff, fostering professional growth and
therapeutic consistency. Additional responsibilities include conducting
assessments, managing treatment planning and discharges, supervising the
Discharge Planner, and serving as a liaison with the courts. A commitment to
compassionate, client-centered care and the mission of the IPU is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Incorporates the six principles of trauma informed care throughout all aspects of their work.
  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based clinical services, including individual and group interventions, crisis support, and coordination of care.
  • Oversee client assessments, treatment planning, and discharge processes to ensure continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Actively contribute to interdisciplinary team processes, sharing clinical insight, coordinating care, and supporting a unified treatment approach.
  • Serve as a liaison with courts.
  • Design, lead, and evaluate daily therapeutic group sessions that promote engagement, healing, and skill-building in a safe, respectful environment.
  • Integrate feedback into client treatment planning and team discussions.
  • Identify training needs and deliver structured educational programming for Social Work and IPU staff using varied, evidence-based instructional methods.
  • Support ongoing staff development through mentoring, feedback, and evaluation of training effectiveness.
  • Provide clinical oversight and supervision to the Discharge Planner and Wellness Activities Facilitator.
  • Contribute to performance evaluation and workforce development.
  • Collaborate with leadership in managing staffing, onboarding, and upholding a positive, accountable workplace culture.
  • Demonstrating competency in Handle with Care techniques, including physical restraint, is a requirement of this position and is necessary for the safety of patients, staff, and others.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • Knowledge of behavioral health and addiction conditions and best practices for treatment.
  • Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Well-developed listening and interviewing skills to explore client needs and develop/monitor treatment plans.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective engagement skills.
  • Ability to effectively encourage interpersonal effectiveness and conflict management

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners.
