A Brief Overview
Accountable for developing, managing and evaluating all aspects of the Infection Prevention program; in accordance with current Federal, State and Local standards, guidelines and regulations as directed by the Quality Care Committee. Responsible for assisting IPAC leadership with surveillance, prevention, and control of infection.
What you will do

  • Implements and educates employees on established infection prevention and control (IPAC) policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Proficient in surveillance using National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance definitions for healthcare associated infections. Assures successful submission of healthcare associated infection data to NHSN. Super user/administrator for data entry/submission and retrieval for NHSN.
  • Maintains data management logs/database for all program records as well as ensuring 100% accuracy in all logs/databases.
  • Reviews, investigates, and analyzes lab and patient information using Clinical Surveillance Program.
  • Compiles and presents healthcare-associated infection statistics to the Infection Prevision and Control (IPAC) Committee(s) and nursing units. Assists with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) committee meetings.
  • Investigates outbreaks and changes in rates as appropriate. Assist in evaluating outcomes and processes to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Assures compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies. Works cooperatively with public health infrastructure including communicable disease reporting.
  • Works collaboratively with Employee Health, Environmental Safety, and individual departments to educate staff, monitor compliance, and recommend improvements. Participates in Environmental Rounds and rounding on department (ancillary and nursing) units as needed.
  • Works with quality staff on healthcare-associated infection committees by providing data and guidance in infection prevention.
  • Maintains appropriate infection prevention knowledge and resources through APIC membership, APIC national conferences/education and facility supported education and resources.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years acute care clinical nursing experience
