What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IP manager?

To thrive as an IP Manager, you need a solid understanding of intellectual property law, patent and trademark processes, and experience in portfolio management, typically supported by a degree in law, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with IP management software, patent databases, and often a registered patent agent or attorney qualification is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help in negotiating, strategizing, and collaborating with legal, R&D, and business teams. These competencies are crucial for protecting organizational assets, ensuring legal compliance, and maximizing the value of intellectual property.

How to become an IP manager?

To become an IP manager, typically a bachelor's degree in law, business, or a related field is required, often supplemented by experience in intellectual property or patent law. Certifications such as the Patent Bar or IP management courses can enhance qualifications, and strong skills in legal analysis, communication, and familiarity with IP tools are important for success in this role.

What is an IP manager?

IP Managers, or Intellectual Property Managers, are professionals responsible for overseeing an organization's intellectual property assets, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. They develop strategies to protect, manage, and leverage these assets to maximize their value and ensure compliance with relevant laws. IP Managers often work closely with legal teams, R&D departments, and business units to identify new IP opportunities, handle licensing agreements, and monitor potential infringements. Their role is vital in safeguarding innovative ideas and maintaining a company's competitive edge.

How does an IP manager typically collaborate with legal and R&D teams within an organization?

An IP Manager works closely with legal teams to ensure intellectual property filings are accurate and compliant with regulations, while also partnering with R&D teams to identify patentable inventions early in the development process. This collaboration often involves regular meetings to discuss ongoing projects, reviewing invention disclosures, and providing guidance on IP strategy. Effective communication skills are essential, as the IP Manager acts as a bridge between technical staff and legal professionals, helping to translate complex ideas into clear patent applications and ensuring the company’s innovations are well-protected.

AI & Creative Project Manager
HYPERMUSE Studio is Dulcedo Group's AI Image & Video studio, built to extend what our talent, creators, and brand partners can achieve when human vision is amplified by the best emerging technology.

Born from Dulcedo's leadership at every major industry shift, HYPERMUSE is designed to deliver high-end, campaign-ready content with the speed and flexibility of AI - without compromising the values that define our business: consent, fairness, creative integrity, and trust. We don't treat AI as a shortcut. We treat it as a new production advantage that is carefully directed, ethically structured, and built to protect the long-term value of the talent economy.

Our studio exists to solve real commercial problems for brands - unlocking new formats, new creative worlds, and new efficiencies - while ensuring that digital likeness and AI-generated assets are managed with rigorous standards. Every deliverable is shaped by experienced creative leaders and producers, because at Dulcedo, technology doesn't replace taste. It scales it.

The Opportunity: We're looking for a Creative Project Manager - the operational engine and management pillar that keeps the studio moving from first client call to final delivery. In this role, you will seamlessly balance the execution of our internal initiatives like proprietary IP and avatar development-with high-touch client management and proactive studio revenue growth through pitching and prospecting .

Bringing presence, taste, and fire, you will run fast-paced productions across AI image and video while keeping a sharp eye on timeline logistics, production effort, and project profitability. We need a PM who can confidently guide stakeholders through an evolving technological landscape, protect creative intent in early conversations, and turn ambiguity into clear momentum without slowing the studio down.

Your Role
  • New business driver: lead prospection for the studio - identify and pursue new client opportunities, build relationships, and convert early conversations into scoped projects.
  • Studio IP manager: manage the studio's internal projects and intellectual property with the same structure and rigour as client work.
  • End-to-end delivery owner: own AI image/video projects - from kickoff to final delivery - across multiple clients and timelines.
  • Client communication lead: run production check-ins, manage expectations, drive next steps, and ensure feedback is consolidated into clear, actionable direction.
  • Early-stage alignment partner: support the brief intake and concept alignment phase by asking smart questions, challenging assumptions, and helping refine the scope into an executable plan.
  • Production framework builder: set timelines, milestones, review cycles, approval gates, versioning, and a "definition of done" for every deliverable.
  • Momentum driver: run working sessions with Creative + Production to keep output flowing, remove blockers, and maintain momentum during rapid iteration.
  • Creative intent guardian: protect creative intent while keeping the machine tight - the team produces at speed without compromising taste, brand fit, or quality standards.
  • Trust and compliance steward: ensure clarity on what's being produced, what's being delivered, and what the client is approving - avoiding any "black box" feeling, without being heavy.
  • Continuous improver: identify bottlenecks, refine workflows, and implement better processes as volume grows
Your Profile
  • At least 5 years of project management experience in a creative agency, VFX studio, cinema production environment, 3D animation studio, or social-first marketing agency.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects in parallel with high client touch, tight timelines, and lots of stakeholders.
  • Strong production instincts: you understand how creative work is made (including traditional photoshoots and image construction) and how to keep it moving without draining the team.
  • Excellent client presence and a proactive commercial mindset: confident leading calls, handling pressure, building strong relationships, and driving revenue through client pitching and prospection.
  • Highly organized and systems-minded: you bring structure that enables creativity-not bureaucracy.
  • Comfortable in fast-moving environments where tools and workflows evolve quickly (you adapt fast and stay calm).
  • Enough creative sensitivity to contribute: you can spot risks, ask the right questions, and help shape direction-but you don't need to be the one writing the entire creative strategy.
  • Experience building scalable workflows in a growing studio or start-up environment.
  • Big Plus: Experience working with AI-enabled or rapid-iteration creative pipelines (or a strong curiosity and real exposure to AI tools/work).
  • Familiarity with usage rights / licensing sensitivities in content production (helpful in AI contexts).
Soft Skills & Dulcedo DNA
  • At Dulcedo, we look for more than just a CV -  we look for energy.
  • You're known for your initiative, curiosity, and genuine drive to make things happen.
  • Your positive attitude, collaborative spirit, and the way you uplift those around you are contagious.
  • You thrive on new challenges, stay calm under pressure, and love the pace and excitement of a dynamic environment.
  • You're a true self-starter - passionate, gritty, and goal-oriented, someone who loves having projects, challenges, and milestones to work toward.
  • In short, you're driven, creative, and structured, someone who knows how to balance discipline, fun, and performance - 3 core pillars of Dulcedo's culture.
Life at Dulcedo!
  • Unlimited Paid PTO : Yes, really. Enjoy true work-life balance with the freedom to take the time you need, when you need it!
  • 12 Monthly Personal Days : One extra day off every month to recharge and relax
  • Flexible Work Environment : Minimal office attendance for those near our hubs, giving you room to adapt your schedule with ease.
  • Montreal & Toronto Offices : Snacks, great vibes, and pet-friendly spaces. What more could you ask for?
  • Remote Work : Ideal for our travellers, expats, and digital nomads who want to grow their career without staying in one place.
  • Freestyle Fridays : We wrap up at 2:00 PM ET every Friday. Long weekends, every week.
  • Comprehensive Insurance : Dental, vision, and medical coverage for you and your loved ones.
  • Room to Grow : Take advantage of real internal mobility in a fast-growing company where "sky's the limit" isn't just a saying.
  • The Best of Both Worlds : A vibrant startup spirit backed by 15+ years of experience and the stability of a well-established organization.
As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to making sure everyone feels included, supported, and valued. Should you require any accommodations during the application process, please write to [email protected] and we will adjust the process to your needs.
