Job Description

The IoT Systems Integration Engineer serves as the critical link between AlignOps' cloud platform and the physical IoT and telematics devices used across construction fleets. This role evaluates, configures, tests, and integrates connected hardware while partnering with Engineering and Hardware Logistics to ensure reliable device performance, seamless deployments, and successful hardware integrations. Success in this role requires a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working directly with hardware, troubleshooting complex device issues, and improving operational processes.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, configure, and bench-test IoT and telematics hardware to ensure compatibility with the AlignOps platform.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize hardware using serial communication interfaces (RS-232, RS-485, TTL), terminal emulation software, and manufacturer-provided tools.
  • Develop and maintain device configuration scripts, vendor-specific logic, and power management profiles that optimize hardware performance and reporting behavior.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, connectivity, cellular, GPS, sensor, and protocol-level issues while collaborating with Engineering on complex software-related concerns.
  • Partner with Hardware Logistics to improve hardware staging, deployment processes, configuration workflows, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate new third-party IoT and telematics devices and vendors to determine platform compatibility and integration feasibility.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to support successful hardware deployments and continuous product improvement.
  • Document hardware configurations, integration procedures, testing results, and troubleshooting guidance to support repeatable deployment processes.
  • Stay current on emerging IoT, telematics, and connected hardware technologies to recommend improvements to existing solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, IoT, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience with a demonstrated project portfolio.
  • 2+ years of experience working with IoT, telematics, embedded systems, hardware integration, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong understanding of embedded hardware concepts, serial communications, event-driven systems, power management, and device configuration.
  • Experience writing Python or similar scripting languages and working with SQL or relational databases.
  • Experience using hardware diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, bench power supplies, terminal software, and wiring harnesses.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
