Director of Innovation – IoT & Smart Lighting

Location: Lutz, FL (On-Site) | Full-Time

Overview

VOLT Lighting is seeking a hands-on, visionary Director of Innovation to lead the future of smart lighting and connected IoT technology. This role will drive new product innovation, emerging technology integration, and expansion of our smart lighting portfolio into new markets.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead innovation strategy for IoT-enabled lighting, controls, sensors, and connected products
  • Build and manage a “Technology Shelf” program by developing emerging technologies into product-ready solutions complete with prototypes, integration guidelines, supplier partnerships, and performance testing
  • Drive proof-of-concept development, rapid prototyping, and technology validation
  • Partner with Engineering, Product Development, Supply Chain, and Product Management to accelerate new product launches
  • Create and manage an innovation pipeline focused on customer needs, market trends, and future technologies
  • Develop strategic partnerships with suppliers, startups, and technology companies

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in IoT, innovation, product development, or R&D leadership
  • Strong knowledge of connected devices, sensors, wireless technologies, embedded systems, and smart product ecosystems
  • Builder mindset with the ability to move ideas from concept to execution
  • Experience creating scalable innovation processes and cross-functional collaboration
  • Lighting, controls, or smart home technology experience preferred
