Job description

Transport Manager

Location: Street, Somerset (Onsite)

Function: Global Logistics & Distribution

The Role

We’re looking for a Transport Manager to lead and take full ownership of our UK and European transport operation from our distribution centre in Street.

This is a high-impact role where you’ll be responsible for carrier performance, cost control, and operational delivery - ensuring we have full visibility, strong governance, and the confidence to challenge both internal teams and external partners.

You’ll play a key role in strengthening how we manage our transport function today, while also supporting future plans to bring more of our inbound sea freight operations in-house.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own and manage all UK & European transport activity across inbound and outbound flows
  • Build and lead strong relationships with carriers, holding them accountable on service, cost, and performance
  • Develop and own internal reporting, ensuring accurate data and insights are used to drive decisions
  • Produce and present quarterly carrier performance reviews, challenging discrepancies and driving improvement
  • Identify and onboard alternative carriers to improve cost efficiency while maintaining service levels
  • Drive a culture of accountability and performance within the transport team
  • Assess the current team structure and capability, identifying opportunities to improve or evolve
  • Support the transition and management of increased sea freight and container activity over time
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK and EU transport regulations

About You

You’ll be a confident and credible transport professional who is comfortable taking ownership, challenging partners, and driving change.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience managing UK and European transport operations
  • Strong understanding of transport legislation (UK & EU)
  • Proven experience owning performance reporting and presenting to stakeholders
  • A data-driven approach, with the ability to turn insight into action
  • Experience managing and challenging 3rd party carriers
  • A strong personality – able to push back, set standards, and lead with authority

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience with sea freight or container booking
  • Exposure to customs processes
  • CPC or IOSH certification (or willingness to complete)

What We’re Looking For

We’re particularly interested in candidates from fast-paced transport and logistics environments such as parcel networks, 3PLs or large retail distribution operations

You’ll ideally have a track record of delivering improvements in service, cost, or operational control.

The Details

  • Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 17:00
  • Fully onsite role based in Street
  • Competitive pension and benefits package
  • Opportunity to shape and improve a key part of our logistics operation

Why Join Clarks?

At Clarks, we’re committed to building a high-performing, modern supply chain that supports our global brand and customers. This role offers real ownership, visibility, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on how we operate.
