Job description

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.

The Beth Israel Lahey Health Investment Office (BILHIO) manages the long-term investment assets for the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) hospital system, which is the second largest healthcare system in New England. Comprising 14 hospitals and over 4,700 physicians, BILH is not only the leading inpatient care provider in the Boston metro area, but also a premier teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. In 2023 BILH announced a collaboration with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and will soon build the region’s only free-standing inpatient hospital for adult cancer patients.
The Investment Office also manages the majority of the endowment and foundation assets for Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP). Founded over 125 years ago, CJP has played an integral role in addressing poverty, social justice, and helping those challenged with disabilities, mental illness, or aging. CJP also supports other programs which strengthen the Jewish community.

Job Description:

The Investment Associate plays an integral role in our investment process. Most often, your work will focus on diligence of new and existing public and private investment managers. This includes both quantitative and qualitative assessments, such as analyzing portfolio construction and holdings, dissecting performance, reading manager letters, and

participating in diligence calls and meetings. Equally importantly, you will also actively contribute to internal discussions as we determine whether to make or maintain an investment, and if so, how much capital to commit. Through this process, you will meet exceptional investors and begin to develop your own investment philosophy, which will shape your role in evaluating and selecting managers.
You will also play an important role in developing materials for our quarterly meetings with the Board of Managers, and for meetings with our investing partners who participate in the BILH or CJP pool. These materials range in scope and may cover insights from recent manager meetings, updates on our portfolio performance and positioning, or broader topics, such as an evaluation of a specific asset class or investment strategy.
We also look to each team member to make meaningful contributions to the continued intellectual growth of the Office. You will actively participate in all our meetings, and we will value your ability to think independently. We also value fresh, new perspectives to help us improve our
investment process, develop new and better analytics, and to raise interesting questions about existing or prospective managers. Your initiative determines how much you can achieve.
Joining our team presents a unique opportunity for personal growth, while positively impacting the further development of the Office. Your success also provides the opportunity to make a meaningful
contribution to institutions that are critical to the delivery of healthcare locally and to philanthropic efforts globally.

Education and Skills:
Attributes – Curious, analytical, intellectually honest, driven, persistent, collaborative, and purpose-oriented.
Education – Undergraduate degree (major agnostic) with demonstrated achievement.
Experience – Pursued interests and/or actual work experience that leads to informed and differentiated decision making.
Interests – Broad personal and professional interests and experiences that shape a unique perspective as an investor.
