Job description

We are seeking a Director of Investment Strategy to help in driving the future growth of the firm. This person will identify attractive investment opportunities by assessing high-growth markets and market niches that fit Tide Rock’s investment criteria. This person will conduct market research and collaborate with internal and external leaders to translate data-driven insights into investment theses. The investment theses this person generates will help drive Tide Rock’s platform and add-on acquisition activity. This role requires deep curiosity about industries and business models, attention to detail without losing the forest for the trees, and collaboration with cross-functional subject matter experts.

This is a full-time position located at our headquarters in Solana Beach, CA

POSITION AND SCOPE:
  • Develop and refine the firm’s investment strategy by identifying attractive industries, product categories, and customer segments.
  • Conduct deep market research, competitive analysis, and trend forecasting to assess investment opportunities.
  • Provide strategic guidance on which sectors and business models align best with the firm’s investment philosophy and growth objectives.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership on emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities.
  • Partner with senior leaders across business units to identify and align strategic priorities that drive growth and enhance market competitiveness.
  • Support strategic planning by conducting scenario analyses and recommending actionable initiatives.
  • Conduct rigorous qualitative and quantitative analyses to address key strategic questions, uncover insights, and inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the investment team to validate investment theses and assess market positioning for potential deals.
  • Lead market diligence efforts, including industry landscapes, TAM (Total Addressable Market) analysis, and customer demand drivers.
  • Evaluate macroeconomic and regulatory factors that may impact investment decisions.
Thought Leadership & Internal Strategy
  • Act as a thought leader, presenting strategic insights to senior leadership and investment committee.
  • Identify white space opportunities for the firm to expand into
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry experts, consultants, and research firms to stay ahead of key trends.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or investment strategy roles.
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of private equity, investment strategy, and market analysis.
  • Deep expertise in market research, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Experience developing growth strategies and evaluating business models across multiple industries.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex data into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
